Politician's theme songsPage 1 of 1
Every election cycle it seems at least one politician 'appropriates' a song as their campaign theme song that the song's owner objects to. Recently it was Neil Young objecting to Trump's use of Rockin in the free world.

Then there are the campaign theme songs that are a good fit between the candidate and the artist, like Bill Clinton and Fleetwood Mac's Don't Stop.

This thread is to rant or rave a candidate's actual choice of theme song, or propose a song a candidate is not using but you think is a good fit.

I'll start - Trump isn't using this song but I think it fits his platform:

Lupe Fiasco - American Terrorist
(Close your mind, close your eyes, see with your heart
How do you forgive the murderer of your father?
The ink of a scholar is worth a thousand times more than the blood of a martyr)

We came through the storm, nooses on our necks
And a smallpox blanket to keep us warm
On a 747 on the pentagon lawn
Wake up, the alarm clock is connected to a bomb

Anthrax lab on a west Virginia farm
Shorty ain't learned to walk already heavily armed
Civilians and little children is especially harmed
Camouflaged Torahs, bibles and glorious Qu'rans
The books that take you to heaven and let you meet the Lord there
Have become misinterpreted, reasons for warfare
We read em with blind eyes I guarantee you there's More there
The rich must be blind because they didn't see the poor there

Need to open up a park? Just close 10 schools
We don't need em
Can you please call the fire department they're down here marching for freedom
Burn down their TV's, turn their TV's on to teach 'em

The more money that they make
The more money that they make
The better and better they live
Whatever they want to take
Whatever they want to take
Whatever, whatever it is
The more that you want to learn
The more that you try to learn
The better and better it gets
American Terrorist

Now the poor Klu Klux man say that we're all brothers
Not because things are the same because
we lack the same color that's green, now that's mean
Can't burn his cross cause he can't afford the gasoline
Now if a Muslim woman strapped with a bomb on a bus,
With the seconds running give you the jitters?
Just imagine a American-based Christian organization
planning to poison water supplies to bring the second-coming quicker
Nigga, that ain't livin' properly
Break 'em off a little democracy
Turn their whole culture to a mockery
Give em coca-cola for their property
Give em gum, give em guns, get em young, give em fun
But if they ain't giving it up, then they ain't getting none
And don't give em all, no ,man, just give em some
It's the paper, then these cops must be Al-Qaeda

The more money that they make
The more money that they make
The better and better they live
Whatever they want to take
Whatever they want to take
Whatever, whatever it is
The more that you want to learn
The more that you try to learn
The better and better it gets
American Terrorist

It's like
Don't give the black man food, give red man liquor
Red man fool, black man nigga
Give yellow man tool, make him railroad builder
Also give him pan, make him pull gold from river
Give black man crack, glocks and things
Give red man craps, slot machines

I'd like to see Sanders using Elvis Costello and "What's so funny about peace, love and understanding."

Bernie Sanders should use this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nz-Ad8rxOxY

Crack the Sky: Het Mr President

Hey Mr. President, where are you sleeping tonight?
Are you tired like us, of living on the outside
Hey Mr. President, where are you eating tonight?
Are you hungry like us, we're the people on the outside

Jesus and Mary are watching you
From their window in the big sky
Wondering what you're going to do
Bankers and lawyers are watching you
From their window in the big sky
Mr. President it's time for you to choose

Hey Mr. President, where are your children tonight?
Are they fighting like us, we're dying on the outside
Hey Mr. President, come down and see us sometime
We're the faces on the headlines, we're the dogs of Dog City

Jesus and Mary are watching you
From their window in the big sky
Wondering what you're going to do
Bankers and lawyers are watching you
From their window in the big sky
Mr. President it's time for you to choose

Maybe Green Day "American Idiot" is available for The Donald.
"Stand by your man" by Tammy Wynette for Hillary?

"Stand by your man" by Tammy Wynette for Hillary?

Not likely:

From Wikipedia:

"The song remained contentious into the early 1990s, when soon-to-be First Lady Hillary Clinton told CBS' 60 Minutes during the 'Gennifer Flowers' interview that she "wasn't some little woman 'standing by my man' like Tammy Wynette." The condemnation from the public was immediate, even coming from Wynette herself."

Could apply to virtually every politician who ever existed...........

"Liar"

Lie lie lie lie liar you lie lie lie lie
Tell me why tell me why
Why d'you have to lie
Should've realised that you
Should've told the truth
Should've realised
You know what I'll do

Now I wanna know
Now I wanna know
Why you never look me in the face
Broke a confidence just to please your ego
Should've realised
You know what I know

You're in suspension
You're a liar

I know where you go everybody you know
I know everything that you do or say
So when you tell lies I'll always be in your way
I'm nobody's fool and I know all
'Cos I know what I know

The Sex Pistols

Liar

I still remember being bemused when Ronald Reagan decided he wanted to use Bruce Springsteen's "Born In The USA" as his theme.

Anyone who actually listened to the lyrics, instead of simply looking at the album cover and the title, would have realized that the song was not remotely what Reagan was looking for. Not an energizing praise of how wonderful it is to be an American at all.

Since then, it's been a repeating refrain, for (mainly Republican) candidates to be told by the artists, that they CAN'T use their songs.

Donald Trump
"Werewolves of London" -by the late great Warren Zevon

I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand
Walkin' through the streets of Soho in the rain
He was lookin' for the place called Lee Ho Fooks
Gonna get a big dish of beef chow mein

Aaahoo! Werewolves of London
Aaahoo!
Aaahoo! Werewolves of London
Aaahoo!

Ya hear him howlin' around your kitchen door
Ya better not let him in
Little old lady got mutilated late last night
Werewolves of London again

Aaahoo! Werewolves of London
Aaahoo!
Aaahoo! Werewolves of London
Aaahoo!

He's the hairy handed gent, who ran amok in Kent
Lately he's been overheard in Mayfair
You better stay away from him
He'll rip your lungs out Jim
Huh, I'd like to meet his tailor

Aaahoo! Werewolves of London
Aaahoo!
Aaahoo! Werewolves of London
Aaahoo!

Well, I saw Lon Chaney walkin' with the queen
Doin' the werewolves of London
I saw Lon Chaney Jr. walkin' with the queen
Doin' the werewolves of London
I saw a werewolf drinkin' a pina colada at Trader Vic's
And his hair was perfect

Aaahoo! Werewolves of London
Draw blood
Aaahoo! Werewolves of London

Bernie Sanders
"Revolution 1" -by the late great John Lennon

You say you want a revolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know you can count me out in
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Don't you know it's gonna be alright

You say you got a real solution
Well you know
We don't all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well you know
We're doing what we can
But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell you is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Don't you know it's gonna be alright

You say you'll change the constitution
Well you know
We all love to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well you know
You better free your mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Don't you know it's gonna be alright

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright
Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Alright, alright, alright
Alright
Alright

Hillary Clinton
"Won't Get Fooled Again" -by the Great Pete Townsend and The Who.

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Though I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?

There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Are now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

for all of them. but bernie's the only one who will get it:

"Throwing Stones"

Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free
Dizzy with eternity.
Paint it with a skin of sky, brush in some clouds and sea
Call it home for you and me.
A peaceful place or so it looks from space
A closer look reveals the human race.
Full of hope, full of grace, is the human face.
But afraid, we may our home to waste.

There's a fear down here we can't forget hasn't got a name just yet
Always awake, always around singing ashes to ashes all fall down.

Now watch as the ball revolves and the nighttime calls
And again the hunt begins and again the bloodwind calls
By and by again, the morning sun will rise
But the darkness never goes from some men's eyes.

It strolls the sidewalks and it rolls the streets
Stalking turf, dividing up meat.
Nightmare spook, piece of heat, you and me, you and me.
Click, flashblade in ghetto night. Rudies looking for a fight.

Rat cat alley roll them bones. Need that cash to feed that jones
And the politicians throwing stones
Singing ashes, ashes all fall down.

Commissars and pin-striped bosses role the dice
Any way they fall guess who gets to pay the price.
Money green or proletarian gray, selling guns instead of food today.

So the kids they dance, they shake their bones
While the politicians throwing stones
Singing ashes, ashes all fall down.

Heartless powers try to tell us what to think
If the spirit's sleeping, then the flesh is ink.
History's page, it is thusly carved in stone
The future's here, we are it, we are on our own.
If the game is lost then we're all the same
No one left to place or take the blame.
We will leave this place an empty stone
Or this shinning ball of bule we can call our home

So the kids they dance, they shake their bones
While the politicians are throwing stones

Singing ashes, ashes all fall down.
Shipping powders back and forth
Singing "black goes south while white comes north"
And the whole world full of petty wars
Singing "I got mine and you got yours."

And the current fashions set the pace.
Lose your step, fall out of grace.
And the radical he rant and rage, Singing "someone got to turn the page"
And the rich man in his summer home,
Singing "Just leave well enough alone"
But his pants are down, his cover's blown

And the politicians are throwing stones
So the kids they dance they shake their bones
Cause its all too clear we're on our own
Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free
It's dizzying, the possibilities. Ashes, Ashes all fall down.
