First Layne Staley and now Cornell :

2 Seattle boys with amazing voices !

So sad to lose such talent at such young ages....

Apparently his wife asked someone to go check on him and he was found dead in his dressing room after a show.

 Daughter saw him a couple days before said he sounded rough. It's a shame the music industry has chewed up another amazing artist.

There is no shame in being able to earn a living at what you love.

What really is a shame is people who work 100X harder as garbage man, store clerks, ditch diggers, etc... who get chewed up and spit out with no recognition at all.

I am not a fan of grunge at all, but RIP.

Depression sucks the big one.

Do NOT even joke about that

It's still sad that Cornell passed.
And now Linkin Park's Chester Bennigton is gone on a what would have been Cornell's 53rd bday.
Coincidence? I dunno

He and Chris were good friends, so I'm sure he also knew when Chris' birthday was. Very unlikely it was a coincidence.

I've had some absolute dogfights with people on the issue of suicide and depression over the last few days. I'm hearing the same tired "selfish" and "cowardly" arguments left and right. There are many cases where the very reason many of them stay alive for as long as they do is for the sake of their family and friends until something traumatic comes along and erodes the last piece of rationality they were clinging to.

In Chester's case, Cornell's death may have been the proverbial final straw.

2 more singers have passed since I began this thread : Greg Allman and Kenny Shields, both 69

Bowie was also 69 - the " 69 club " is catching up to the " 27 club "

I met a girl at a concert and we were talking about this.....I said "why is it so hard to be a rockstar? Make music, play on stage and make boats of money, what tha f is the problem?". She said they were screwed up in the first place, thats why they became musicians.....kinda funny, but true. Chester was always doing a primal scream. Its probably good for these guys to die young in a sales and marketing sense......

Musicians/artists are sensitive types which can be a double edged sword.

Issues affect them more than others which, on the one hand , can result in cool, original art but that outlet isn't enough , hence the drugs and alcohol....which doesn't bode well for a long life.

Good points Chuck, I can also see an endless tour as a problem, and then the megastars can't even go out in public, so it becomes a real abnormal life....

Ya , a long tour where at times you just don't feel like it and need something to GET you in the mood.

Then there's the ones who have a rep to maintain - I heard Tommy Lee say in an interview that he felt it was EXPECTED of him to have a bottle of Jack Daniels in his hand 24/7 !

Fan finds Tommy Lee drinking a glass of milk with a healthy meal :

" You just shattered my illusion - THANKS A LOT ! "

Even though I am not a fan of grunge, I thought Audioslave, particularly the first album was really good.

I downloaded the first album for free (yeah not cool I know), but I still supported the band by seeing them live.

You should have seen the mosh pit for 'Killing In The Name'. Absolutely mental !

Add Warell Dane to the list.

Moral of the story: Don't be a singer in a band from Seattle.

Is Eddie Vedder next?

Eddie Vedder should have been first, ha ha!
