Someone once told me, Playboy had recently shelved the nekked photos b/c they were waiting for Hef to pass before killing his baby in the age of free internet porn. I guess we may find out for sure, soon. While he sure profited from the movement he jumped on, in the last decade the magazine seemed to parody itself, harping on its own self importance and history.

Maybe Hugh Hefner made as great a contribution to the world of women's fashion as Karl Lagerfeld &c. The Bunny Girl costume is iconic
Briefly, around 1970, my partner was an ex-Playboy Bunny. And though there were strict rules about returning all BunnyGirl equipment on leaving, she had somehow retained her lincoln green costume, which she liked to wear under her skirt. I recall that vividly because when we'd sit, cross-legged, on her large bed, often to play a game of cards, her skirt would ride-up to show that outfit. And, around 1980, when I was working in the City Of London, I was a member of the infamous Park Lane Bunny Club. One evening, I went there with a couple of workmates. After dining, as we were playing modestly at roulette, a glamorous couple came in. Their Porsche (I think) was left outside on yellow lines and the young man began playing craps with enormous stakes though minimal fuss. On losing about £ 20 000-, he cashed a cheque and resumed gambling, with his female partner looking-on coolly. Within a few minutes he had won enough to give them net winnings of £ 30 000-, which he cashed-in quietly. On that, they swept out as though nothing had happened. And no-one in the club batted an eyelid

I will say, they had some interesting interviews over the course of their history. so did other magazines, but the claim "I read it for the articles" wasn't always baloney.

In times before all that's now available on the interweb and sophisticated talk-radio, some Playboy Magazine articles could be remarkably informative; and the interwoven pictures, highly titillating for men whose food wasn't too-much tainted by œstrogen-like compounds. And so, making the effort to buy such a costly-for-most-folks journal was worth it

I remember the first time I saw a Playboy calendar in elementary school. One of my classmates brought it to school and we looked at it at recess.

One of the women awoke something in me that has remained awake ever since.

Physical attraction is one thing but every once in a while you see someone that is EXACTLY what you want and it can be very powerful !

Though openly carrying a copy of Playboy Magazine was likely to be frowned-on, it was also a little prestigious. But it is more honest or colourful than subsequent posing with the customary Perrier bottle, Starbucks cup or iPhone

I have a few issues from the 1970s and a couple of extra centerfolds. Great memories. 1960s-1970s era was incredible.
