I have a few songs I really enjoy listening too and they never get boring, because I only have to listen to them once a year.

What are your favourite xmas songs? Do you think the new xmas songs compare to the one's from the past?

For me, xmas is about childhood nostalgia and trying to get as close to the way I felt as a child as I can. Watching the old animated Rudolph, Charlie Brown, Santa C. is coming to town, etc. The classic Alistair Sim Scrooge, Miracle on 34th street w/M. O'Hara, It's a Wonderful Life.

Therefore, I prefer xmas songs by the very artists I heard as a child like Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams, etc

When some young tart like a Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson sings a classic song it makes me wanna hurl.

Newer songs that don't even sound like an xmas song but they lump in with all the traditional songs on the radio just because it's about xmas ?

No thanks !

I'm old. So I've heard these songs over and over again. Christmas songs are like Eagles songs; I know I liked them once, but now I just want them to stop.

That said, there is one song I like a lot, mostly because it doesn't get played: Children Go Where I Send Thee. It's been covered by everyone from Kenny Rogers to Dinah Washington.

^^^^

Does this mean you're not going to shell out a zillion bucks to sit in a nosebleed seat just so you can say you saw the Eagles when they were way past their prime like all the rest of the IDIOTS ?

"Carol of the Bells" (because it's dark and ominous, unlike most other Christmas ditties)

" 'O Holy Night" (simply because it contains some great melody lines)

Last, but not least, "I Believe in Father Christmas" by the late, great, Greg Lake.

I know I liked them once, but now I just want them to stop.

This is a favorite of mine...

"Christmas Time Is Here Again" - The Flirtations (1968)

https://youtu.be/hdcPy9yt8v4

The 3 copies they show in the clip (Germany, Netherlands, and England) I have in my collection plus I also have the American and Belgian (Beautiful picture sleeve) copies, too.

A couple of years ago around this time, CBC's music guy played a song from the 50s called "Backdoor Santa." As yes, it's just as dirty as it seems.

^^^ Clarence Carter released that song in 1968. He also sang "Strokin'" which is also a very dirty song.

^^^ " Strokin " isn't an xmas song so no need to worry about an elementary school choir singing it anytime soon

The Polkadot Cadaver Christmas EP, 'From Bethlehem To Oblivion' is an annual favorite.

Bulb's 'All I Want For Christmas' is pretty great too.
