OVER 60 SCAMMER?????Page 1 of 2    (1, 2)
I was emailing someone who contacted me from another site, who said he was 60 years old, and an airline pilot. Said he was of "Italian" descent, but gave me a German last name. The "kicker" was that after several days, he contacted me and said that he had to fly to "Sidney" Australia. Except, it's "Sydney", and one would think that if he had flown for 30 years, as he stated, he would have spelled the city's name correctly. His entire "story" sounds suspect to me. Any thoughts?

My two cents....if you think it feels/smells fishy, it probably is. Upward and onward and away from this guy. Trust your instincts.

You never know. Many people have problems with spelling.

A lady I know, know in real life, 45 years old and smoking hot, met an airline pilot through one of the adult oriented sites. His home base was in New Jersey, but he flew everywhere for free or next to nothing. He took her to Vegas for a big weekend, and then to the Caribbean for another weekend getaway.

Turns out he was married, but I don’t think she really cared, she was enjoying the trips too much.

Although I don't think those 2 pieces of information are suspect either individually or in aggregate, after awhile you just get to recognize scam profiles even if you can't put your finger on exactly why you think that.

Agree with Harmony, move along.

That's just one more good reason to date locally. Long distance relationships seldom work anyway.

I understand that you have concern about spelling something he should have known how to spell, but I think it is very likely an innocent mistake. I can easily write something atrociously if tired or distracted. Sometimes it's an attention to detail issue. I have people at work who consistently misspell my name in emails. Year after year, they simply don't notice how my name is spelled, despite appearing in the signature of every email. Just try not to read so much into it that you are making a decision to dismiss based on small things.

I suspect Blacklady.........will not be flying United, anytime soon.
I agree with Cynthia, (did I spell that right?) One's spydee senses become very sensitive the more one uses OLD sites.
I agree with you, Blacklady.....................something does not add up. Toss him back in the sea.

Spell correct could be the culprit

I would give the benefit of the doubt over a misspelled word....till otherwise proven different.

Sounds like a few "yellow" flags. If you continue to communicate, be wary.

OP, it sounds suspicious to me, too. If I were in your shoes, I'd probe him with further questions about his profession, just to see if he slips up.

I used to work as a flight attendant years ago, so I'd ask him technical questions about the types of planes he flies. A true airline pilot would be able to answer the questions correctly, without hesitation.

Said he was of "Italian" descent, but gave me a German last name.

Not a red or yellow flag. Being of Italian decent doesn't at all require an Italian last name. If he has a 100% Italian mother who married a guy with a Jones/McFadden/Smith last name because his dad wasn't of Italian origin -- bingo. It's very easy not to carry the last name of where you're descended from.

The "kicker" was that after several days, he contacted me and said that he had to fly to "Sidney" Australia. Except, it's "Sydney"

Him being 60 using a cell phone to text -- auto-correct can get ya. This Alone shouldn't carry much weight. It's one of those things that only holds weight if combined with other stuff...

His entire "story" sounds suspect to me. Any thoughts?

Well if that's all you have to go on that seems off -- that's not much. But I imagine there's other stuff?

I actually don't mind scammers. They're always easy to recognise, and I enjoy wasting their time. I just had one who was using a picture he'd probably nicked from Facebook: it was of a guy standing in front of a stage at a festival, with an AC/DC banner clearly visible on the side of the stage.

I asked where the picture had been taken, and he said - to quote him - "It was at funeral of my friend". I pointed out that his friend's funeral probably hadn't taken place at an AC/DC gig - and poof! He was gone. It was an enjoyable 15 minutes.

I get a lot of those "my (uncle, brother, cousin, sister, friend, boss,
john, pimp, drug dealer) found you very attractive and asked me to
contact you as they are without a profile on POF."

Of course, they're not usually that articulate.

For the “drug dealer”, you should immediately write back and ask for the name of the drug dealer. I mean, if he found you attractive, then he might cut you a deal. Maybe even free samples!!!

^^^I wouldn't even know what drugs to ask for!

I'm sort of lazy and I'm not sure I could commit to
an addiction at this time in my life. It's all I can do to
keep up with my Starbucks.

The problem is, too many women haven't been able to figure out they were hearing it from the wrong man.

^^^^ I have some questions in mind that aren't found on Google. It would be very easy for me to trip up a man falsely posing as an airline pilot.
