What's your mantra?Page 1 of 2    (1, 2)
Saying or general 'live by' rule?

Personally I always say you don't stop playing when you get old; you get old when you stop playing!

Had a guest come in the other day and I remarked on his very smart shoes. He said 'You should have 2 things in life. Good shoes and a good bed because you are always in one or the other'.

I dunno... Just struck me as poignant

Hey there Hostess..

Have to say that your " General Rule thingy" is really catchy and just rolls off the tongue..

As for that other one, well I`d have to add 2 more to it, buses and pubs...

Just saying...

Jon Kabat Zinn is the founder of the idea behind mindfulness. Whether you believe in his stuf or not i reckon he has helped millions of people to live and live their lives better.

His mantra is that if you wake up in the morning and you're still breathing, you're doing well.

Mine are the Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth. They work pretty well by the time you get to my age and are sick of the BS most people want to bring into your life. I'm probably not as old as i'm making myself out to be here but i've had a hard life.

Sad, very sad. But they're still worth lots of money apparently, but for why?

I don't miss my E type. Still lovely looking but try driving one to realise how far we've come in car design.

My dad had an e type when I was born, apparently they weren’t worth much back in 1968 and it needed a load of work doing so he scrapped it!

Roxy, don't forget to have a balanced diet, a glass in each hand should do it.

Have you tried cleaning using vodka? Very silly, much cheaper with Flash.

My friend bought a bottle of vodka on the way home from work on his bike. He was worried about falling off and smashing the bottle so decided to drink it first. A wise move as he did fall of his bike nine times on the way back.

A man walks into a bar and orders a shot of vodka then looks into his pocket. He does this over and over again. Finally, the barman asks why he orders a shot of vodka and afterwards look into his pocket. The man responded, "I have a picture of my wife in there and when she starts to look good then I'll go home."

and to bring it down a level or two

A guy offers a girl a shot of vodka, but the girl says alcohol is bad for her legs, The guy ask "Do they swell?" The girl replies "No they spread"

Strike while the irons still hot...or in my case at least luke warm..

Let sleeping dogs lay...or lie depending how you pronounce it.

Don't cry over spilt milk...

Don't judge a book by its cover....very apt in my case..

Every cloud has a silver lining....

It is better to be considered a fool and be silent than open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

Indeed - reading this thread I saw someone had posted this - "Speak softly and carry a big stick". I don't know if he authored or simply repeated it but it was Roosevelt's mantra apparently, one of the best American Presidents ever. The current orange one doesn't seem to have learned this lesson.

First goal of the new season!
