You're a bit older than me - we had a tv in 1953, for the Coronation -
not much to watch as I recall.....I remember on the radio
'lost in space' (weekdays) 'rays a laugh' 'round the horn'
'the navy lark' & 'whacko' - oh yes & Larry the Lamb
(listen with mother) - later on, the top 20 with David Jacobs -
I grew up with the sanitised BBC TV News (nothing changes)
and the various tv pop shows.
I despair at a lot of the stuff on tv, it's either a load of idiots
screaming (bit like Parliament) or made for oldies tv junk..........
........ now what did I do with that stairlift leaflet............?

"Mrs Dale's Diary was the first significant BBC radio serial drama. It was first broadcast on 5 January 1948 on the BBC Light Programme, which became Radio 2 in 1967; it ran until 25 April 1969"

and

"The Archers, is a British radio soap opera broadcast on BBC Radio 4—the BBC's main spoken-word channel—since 1951. It was initially billed an everyday story of country folk and now, a contemporary drama in a rural setting.[4][5] Having aired over 18,800 episodes, it is the world's longest-running drama"

don't think either ended up on TV.

I remember before TV's when we just had a huge radiogram.
So it was radio or records to listen too.

The first black and white TV's were terrible for interference with the channels wandering off and picture rolling !

Having a bath once per week in those days in front of the fire and a wash in the sink every night before bed.
