I think so. I'm in West End and wondered what the funky smell was and where all the low-lying clowd was coming from...now I know.

yup. there's like 2 1/2 times more 'life' in the bog than there is in a rainforest....my numbers are likely off...but it's a very special place, regardless of numbers. and she burns well.

hmmmm

burns bog.

go figure.

Yah all of sudden the sun is gone.

Smells too.

I remember the last big fire...crazyness. Better not have been a cigarette that started it again. GRR.

I think it might have some showers tomorrow, but some good ole fashion vancouver rain would help.

It really is a shame - I hope they keep it as an environmental area after it's out/done - and don'e decide it's over and develop parts of it...

I wouldn't worry too much about the enviromental damage. Bogs burn.
Even without a manmade initiator, sooner or later just about any bog will catch fire.

On the other hand, the impact on me kinda sucks right now. The smoke is fairly thick across New West ATM. I just got in from shopping and I've got a killer headache. MY sinuses are going nuts too.

Seems I'm sensitive to peat smoke. :(

Oh, and try not to get any of that ash in your mouth! I accedently inhalled some and YUCK! Very powerful acrid taste.

the bogs been there for a millenia....its not going to be destroyed by fire...Im sure its burned before there were fire trucks and helicoptors. But yes all it takes is one politician to say its done and POOF...another parking lot!

'edit' smoke is bad right now in Port Moody

We've even got smoke up here in Gibsons. The sun is a coppery red color and thee is a haze in the air.

Burns Bog is an unique and very interesting area. I hope the fire is contained and on a small scale.

it feels weird because I live in Ladner and there is only just starting to be a little smoke over us...was all getting blown the other direction I guess...sorry to hear everyone else is suffering:( I drove past it last night and you could see the fire under the smoke, we were pretty close to it. Weirdest part was all the cars parked on the side of the road with people watching...seemed a little morbid to me.

It's horrible here in SE Burnaby I have been choking on the smell since it started god I hate living in a high point... It was so bad last night the smoke was street level I have been feeling Ill (Puke) since last night... True it is the Last Peat Bog but not the only Peat in the lower mainland all of the gardens on Marine Drive actually sit on one, the whole area is all Peat Land and it makes awesome soil...

Unfortunately the only way to put out those fires is to turn them upside down...effectively destroying the bog and the fire simultaneously. I have fought some Peat fires in my day, same principles...they need to be dug...and dug deep to remove the heat..
It is unfortunate that we have careless people in this day and age...

Im from Ladner as well and I dont see or smell the smoke. I work in Tilbury and same there, except when you are looking over that way. There were tons of cars pulled over, just watching the smoke, and the planes flying over and dropping water. Unfortunately, it tales ALOT to put those fires out.
