Take a ride to the Jersey shore. Walk on the boardwalk or many beaches, in season or not.

Go to AC to check out the casinos, shows, and clubs.

Try the parks, or take a ferry from the Highlands over to NY. Go out on a fishing trip, deep sea or otherwise from the Highlands too.

Go to the Meadowlands to bet on the horses, or see a sports event or concert!

Try a pool hall, or go bowling, or even ice skating located throughout the state.

For music lovers there are clubs that support any variety of music you can think of ...with locations from South Beach Island all the way up to the NY border!

If you like rides, there's always Great Adventure in season too, or perhaps you're a history buff and would prefer a trip to the Capital where you can visit the War Memorial Bldg.

Take in a show in the many playhouses located throughout the state.

How about a corn maze or hay ride during the fall season or ride through the great PSE & G fantasy light extravaganza during Christmas time at the PNC center.

There's skiing at Vernon Valley in season too. Go up to High Point and look out at all the neighboring states!

Take in a concert with well known acts at the PNC during the summer months or visit the Vietnam War Memorial Wall also located there.

Go into Lambertville and try a flea market, or to Columbus which is open all year and huge. There are plenty of other flea markets all over the state too.

How about Liberty State Park, where you can go over to the Statue of Liberty, or just stroll around. Perhaps you'd like Liberty Science Center.

Don't forget the Camden Aquarium, or another concert or event at the Tweeter Center.

I know, you can try shopping at Turn Table Junctions quaint little shops, or perhaps you'd rather go to Secaucus where outlets line the streets.

There's so much to do in NJ, one could never be bored...and the perfect date all depends on a matter of taste!

I think I'll leave restaurants up to someone else....because I know too many to name! : )

Unzippedpassion: Your date ideas are amazing! Ever think about another career? You could do a website on things to do in NJ, or apply for the job that someone is already doing really crappy at! LOL

Anyway here are some of my suggestions for restaurants. I live in Central New Jersey, Jackson to be more specific so I am partial to this area.

1) Charlie browns (I like the lakewood location as opposed to the Toms River Location)
2) Applebees or Tgifridays are pretty much a given - Howell, Freehold and Brick
3) Pilot House in Brick on Route 70 (a little pricey but not too bad)
4) Java Moon - Jackson on route 537 or there are several others in and around our area
5) Johnny Carinos - Howell - Nice romantic atmosphere if you ask for one of the boothes with the curtains.
6) Nagisaki Japanese Hibatchi on boarder of Howell and Lakewood. Fun for a first date. If you dont have too much to talk about, the waiter/hibatchi cook will be happy to entertain you. If you dont want entertainment, he will back off and not say a word. If you are looking for romantic, there are little curtained off booths too :)

to be continued... (someone has to work) hahaha

If you want romance and a night to remember, you have to be at Arthurs Landing in Weehawken at sunset.............I had a first date there. I picked the place and my date told me there's no way he could ever beat that evening. Nice Guy but mentioned a bit of info that I was not aware of. No need to talk about it I'm sure you can figure it out. The sunset, dinner and good night! Life is good!

YES! Those are GREAT places & also in the Central NJ area.. anything in downtown Freehold area.. The Metropolitan Cafe is a really great atmosphere...romantic & trendy... There's a place called Citrus around the corner that I've never been to but i've heard it's really good & a lot of people i know have gone on dates there! I believe there's at least a good 3-4 restraunts in that downtown area off of Route 537.... Check it out!

Yes, Plumbers Daughter - you're right about downtown Freehold - also there is The Court Jester, that can be a bit roudy with after work crowds, but still and all, a fun and safe place to meet. There's the Cabin on Route 33 - there's music there (Classic Rock) every Thurs, Frid, Sat night. Beacon Street Grille ?? decent enough food, quiet places in the restaurant proper, or booths around the bar. Connolly's Station on 8th Avenue and Main in Belmar - separate dining room, or booths around the bar - usually live music - The Brick Wall in Asbury Park - new chic place - live music most nights. Then again, there's always Red Bank - Reds (club and restaurant - caters to the younger crowd), Ashes - you'll hate this if you're not a smoker. Buona Serra (sp?) in Red Bank. Then there's Elements in Sea Girt - owner is Jon Bon Jovi's brother - not sure if they're still serving dinners or not. Ichabods, across the road in Sea Girt - great biker bar during the summer season, for rides out to Sandy Hook and along Ocean Boulevard through Deal, Long Branch, etc.

Jimmies in Asbury Park. The outside belies the nicety of the inside and the food which is Italian is excellent. Romantically, it is a bit too crowded and busy but then again with so many people eating out theses days there aren't many places that are kind of dark and secluded if you enjoy that type of romantic place.

South Jersey here.
Camden County .
Max 2 miles from my house specifically.

There are several places, depending on what you want.

If, you are looking to impress big scale:
Kunkles in Haddon Heights. (Really good Steak & Fish)
Thommy G's in Audubon. (Great Cajun/Italian fusion)
Casona in Collingswood. (Cuban food extrordinare)

Big impression on a small scale:
Totilla Press in Collingswood. (Can't get a cheeseburger on Haddon Ave in C-Wood. Ate here New Years Eve....MMmmm Goodie!)
Alphabet Soup in Audubon. (Chef from Le-Bec-Fin. What's he doing in Audubon? Who cares, good for me!)

Bar fare:
Oaklyn Manor.( best thing about the food is where it's served. out on the deck in the nicer months)
RMacs in Haddon Twp. (deck, live music, pretty good food. Everyone goes home happy)
Merryfields in Oaklyn.( Get there early on pasta night. Food specials all week long)
PJ Whelihan's in Haddon twp/Haddonfield border.( Decent food, beers are cold enough...roof dosen't leak)

Happy Eats,
John

Gencarelli's Bloomfield Av. Newark
What is so unique, for all you that smoke, it is permitted. Separate dining area, bar for it. Way they get around it, is they have cigar lounge and sell cigars. They even booked a party for cigar smokers only.

Another good small Italian restaurant is American Bistro.. Washington Av. Nutley.
Impressive about this place is there is a sign on the bar for the waiters/waitresses that all opened wine bottles must be vaccuum sealed each night. Never saw that b4.

Well the Ocean City boardwalk is always a nice place for a date.
But good eats, right in Somers Point, exit 30 off the GSP.
Anchorage on Bay Ave. Great seafood and steaks with a bay view. Also clam bar when in season which is a block away.
Crab Trap on the circle is a great place for more upscale. All places have the view of the water and great food. Good places for dates and just for eats.

The Mystic Island Casino is a nice casual place with great food, quiet atmosphere. Used to be a really rowsy place but the owner has really cleaned it up.
