Notice: Forums will be shutdown by June 2019

To focus on better serving our members, we've decided to shut down the POF forums.

While regular posting is now disabled, you can continue to view all threads until the end of June 2019. Event Hosts can still create and promote events while we work on a new and improved event creation service for you.

Thank you!

General rule of thumb. If they have blocked you, don't IM them.

But sometimes it just says "User Online" and it's not a clickable link.

Is this a bug, or does it mean they closed out all browser windows without actually logging off or what?

The IM link will usually show as being "Online" for 15 minutes after they have logged off.

I log in, etc, but, as I said...IM doesn't go.

This Thread deals with those concerns: 'Instant Messenger'

Also have a look here: Firefox Browser with Instant Messenger

Firefox may be the easiest route to go ... from a technical perspective.

Download it, follow the Instructions I posted, all very simple.

Cheers, good luck.

I am still not sure I understand the difference between Chat and Instant message. What odes it mean when one sees Chat near a picture Vs Instant message?

Thank you.

Same thing. Chat is IM.

Thanks, but: effectively might mean the same thing, but why have two designations if there is not any difference?

POF didn't invent the terms. The programmer simply used whichever he wanted to. Possibly due to space consideration on the line or page it is displayed on.

IM, Chat, Instant Messenger = same thing. .

Sorry I bothered you. Just trying to learn more about computer programing, logic, deductive reasoning and effective software writing.
