If I may play devil's advocate...
if you are going to set standards for the main picture why not require it to be a full body picture, standing OR seated,. That way we get rid of SOME of the complaints about head shots not revealing obesity, missing limbs, wheelchairs, whatever. I'm sure dishonest members who want to conceal such issues will probably find a way to get around it...
Just a thought and believe it or not I've heard other members say pretty much the same thing in the forums.

jazmella, for the most part I agree with you and was just relaying something I see frequently discussed in forums. For myself, I'm fine with complying with the rules but I won't be reporting other members. That just feels, well...WRONG, to me.

hey there Arugula, yes your legs were nice looking, as I remember. Seeing a face is better. As they say the eyes are the mirrors of your soul. And I know of people that dont put their pic up mainly because some of the ones I do know are public figures, and dont want the lime light, just a normal person that is looking too.

HOWEVER.....!!! I do have a little problem with the way things are set up to RAT out others....there is just something wrong with that whole idea. As for fake photos, what is stopping anyone from placing a photo of someone else up...face shot or not....NOTHING as I see it. So whats that point. However with that said I will be glad to see all the female T & A photos getting deleted. Once you have seen one set of T & have seen them.....all.... As well when I have rated would be nice to have something on that page to report nude photos and not just rate them 1 to 10. I have seen more then my fair share of some guy that just puts a photo of his DONG of someone elses up and asks for it to be rated... Maybe on the rate my photo area you can also include a DELETE due to cartoon and or nude photo botton, as well as a crop the photo one along with the rating number scale.....just a thought for what its worth...

I think it would be cool if people were asked to actually have a picture so we don't end up meeting Sasquatch at Timmies for coffee :(

By the way that's actually me riding the zebra!!!!!!!

Some people live in small towns and would prefer that everyone in town not know that she/he is on a dating site. Whether it is due to the fact that they want there privacy protected or as you are very aware some people are looking for alternate relationships. I agree with several others that you continue to set two different standards. You allow practically nude pictures to be posted along with so much cleavage that they might just as well show there breasts. But if someone posts a picture of there pet, showing that they truely love animals all of a sudden THEY get punished.. That is such a crock of crap its pathetic!!! I guess you would rather they post no picture instead of showing the love for animals... Why don't you package a do's and dont's of hair styles and clothing. Maybe all of the females should wear Navy blue blouses and the guys white shirts with a tie.... GET REAL.. let this site be freedom to express yourself however you feel as long as it isn't degrading or pornographic!!!!!

I don't agree with it at all. While I don't like some body pics, I find some of the other pics funny and often an insight into the person's personality. Also, if I feel like I don't wish to display myself, I like the option of the main pic being something else, and the person has to click on the profile and then can see the other pics. It would be nice if the person had a proper pic IN addition to the non-human/body part pic. That's what I had, my main picture was of the Martin Luther King Jr. waterfall in San Fran, and then I had pics of me that one could see upon opening the profile. As someone mentionned though, one could have a fake pic up anyway so deception is not really the issue for me.

I think a pic of a person's face that is totally fuzzy and you cannot even see them is worse than a non-human or body part pic.

If someone wishes to obscure themselves though, go right ahead. I have my opinions about certain types of pics, but I would certainly never impose my distaste or opinion on someone else.

I just hope that all sites do not begin to get too "overuled" with rules :)

Great point!!!! I think if you continue this rule that everyone not in favor of it should just go find a photo of joe blow off the street and post it as his/her picture... Nobody is going to know if its you or not..... JDMUI..... admin DICTATOR deleted both of my photos even though they weren't my primary photos either.. so he lies on top of being a dictator!!!

I choose not to post my picture because I feel that someone should take time to read the profile and feel the person from the words not just the face or the body!!! And as I stated before if someone is a liar or cheater do you not think that they will decieve you by posting a false picture. I am not ashamed of the face god gave me but I also think that the DICTATOR admin. should also respect our wishes to present ourselves through other visual expessions of ourselves besides just a mug shot... Once again I know I am repeating this but he has no problem showing half dressed women or half dressed males... yet he chooses to eliminate a beautiful picture or someones best friend as in a pet.. And you are correct Astreea.. a pet is truely an expression of the person within..... And all of you that continue to preach that it is his site and he can run it as he chooses....... Your correct.. But does that mean that he can't make a mistake and take the advice of some other people that also want to see this site prosper but not always nessacarily how he runs it... And DAMNIT if I want my dogs picture as a supplimentary photo LEAVE IT THERE... Comply with your own damn rules JERK

Okay, totally confused now. You personally went into my profile and delete the pics that you deem indecent but you left shot of my legs and my chest pics. So here I thought those were okay and not indecent since you did look it over yourself.

Though I think it is really funny that you deleted two award-winning pictures that on POF deemed indecent when a well-known photography society deemed excellent photography. But now, you removed (and deleted) my legs shot as my main picture which you had left alone last time. The picture was tastefully done. If my own mom didn't have a problem with it . . . .LOL . . . I am surprise that you or anyone else does. My mom is a tough cookie - she loved it!

Yes, I understand why a head shot needs to be in the main picture. That's fine. We all can live with that. But I do want it to be known that I have click on profiles that had beautiful scenery or a funny pic . . .just because it gave a hint of the person's personality that I thought I would like to look into more.

Please don't get the wrong image . . . I do truly love this site. I have met more people on-line that I never would have met. Even met good friends from my own area. And I definitely wouldn't be looking forward to meeting some of the people in Scotland if I hadn't found this site.

However, once you begin "policing", add more and more rules. . . . . you might as well change the name to POF's And if you do that, you might as well, kick off all the "non-single" people, knock off the "chat" people, rid the site of "here for the forums only" people, etc. Which then will probably make this site pretty boring place to visit.

You profusely claim this is a "dating" site . . . . however, I strongly disagree. This site is much, much, much more than just a "dating" site.

Thanks for hearing me out, Mr. Admin. Oh, one more question - do you want me to delete my tastefully done chest shot or do you want that honor? Heavens, I don't want my profile deleted.

i think it only makes sense if the people reporting the pics are identified to the people who have had the pics deleted because of their jealousy. I mean really when it comes down to it, it will be because someone has a better pic then someone else and they are jealous so if they get it removed then they think those people won't have a good chance anymore. I also think that the pics have to be checked to make sure that they fit into the guide lines before they are deleted. if there is no nudity and some form of a face is showing, like a chin then keep it. I don't think the whole face needs to be seen clearly for everyone to see because some people are shy about being on a site like this. If that stuff can't be followed then I think this whole thing should be taken away because it will just be abused.

People...People you are here advertising yourself.
Not the dog or your photography skills.

You are here to sell yourself to another.....nothing less.
So do it right.

If you were buying a car do you think a picture of the ash tray is all that should be posted?

A profile without a picture is simply hiding something.....themselves!

1. an analysis (often in graphical form) representing the extent to which something exhibits various characteristics; "a biochemical profile of blood"; "a psychological profile of serial killers"
2. an outline of something (especially a human face as seen from one side)
3. biographical sketch
4. degree of exposure to public notice; "that candidate does not have sufficient visibility to win an election" [syn: visibility]
5. a vertical section of the Earth's crust showing the different horizons or layers

thats not a valid point, woman can go out in public and show low cut cleavage tops and it is perfectly acceptable and even string bikinis, no one has any issues with that but people would have issues if guys went around wearing their pants so low that half their willies hung out. I think what ever is acceptable in a public area should be acceptable on this site, I mean, come on, are we prudes? Also if you don't like it, then don't look at it, don't ruin others peoples fun just for your own selfishness.

My personal opinions aside, if you insist on keeping this feature...

...then how about a second step/confirmation page (ex., are you sure this image should be deleted/reported?) to keep people from unintentionally deleting other users' images? A wayward click of my mousebutton earlier this evening apparently reported another user's image, and I didn't even realize it until he said something about it.

If you're going to allow users to dictate what other users may or may not use in their profiles, then at least make sure it was intentional.

Funny this...

I chose not to put up "public" photos of me primarily because I have an abusive ex. She has already used against me the general public perception that "internet dating" is questionable at best and shows some demonic flaw in a person at worse. That perception being perpetuated by the media's unbalanced reporting of about 1 positive dating example vs. 100 negative stories of things like predators and scammers.

Knowing my neighbors and many others in the community in which I live, I know that the vast majority of them and their opinions have not caught up with the 21st century. Although many frown upon cruising bars for "love," most would allow that being somewhat acceptable, perhaps a "necessary evil" vs. using the technology of the internet. They cannot conceive yet that internet dating can be much safer than crusing bars or some of the other more accepted methods of looking for a partner. And to reemphazise the above, the mainstream media with it's addiction to sensationalism, reinforces and perpetuates those misconceptions.

And this in the good 'ole U.S.of A. Talk about freedom eh?

Because of the above and a few other reasons I can think of I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Plenty of Fish site owner/operator for not making it manditory to have a photo. If we had to display a photo I would either not be here at all or I would be coerced into finding and posting a false photo for my protection.

I do and will continue to send a photo of myself most often when initiating contact with another PoFer or replying to someone emailing me. That is, after I've decided it is not the ex or one of her friends or co-workers.

Now I was beginning to consider using some main -public- pic of something related to me or my interest but not of me specifically. Then having other photos of me that people actually looking at my profile could see. That way anyone simply cruising through a search would not see my smiling face upfront and click to view my profile and information because of it. I was beginning to feel this might be a comfortably safe alternative.

This thread makes it clear that this is no longer an option. I don't remember reading such a rule as has been mentioned here about the main photo when I initially signed up. But I conceed there are so many rules and regulations and laws and terms etc., etc. ad nausiem that I may have overlooked it. Just because it is posted somewhere (even somewhere obscure and almost impossible to find like some governments and businesses prefer to do... but I am not implying PoF does this) does not mean we all or even most of us read and/or fully understood it.

Overall I have enjoyed the more relaxed nature and reasonable freedom of expression provided by the PoF site and it's host. Thank you.

However, because it isn't as simply as black and white, I voted "No." I prefer not to have so many restrictions levied upon the site that changes it's character from a relaxed place to meet and communicate with others of similar and different interests to a site that is more like the paid sites that do things primarily to increase cash flow. Also, requiring such a photo is no guarantee that it will be not be spoofed. If we lived in a perfect world none of these and other issues would pose a problem.

I look forward to many more hours of PoF as long as it doesn't become too restrictive or uncomfortable to use.

Thanks again Markus.

At last! Nothing wrong with including pictures of pets or groups so long as a good, recent and close up of the actual person is also part of the profile.
