The Sayings you love or hatePage 1 of 6    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
On my way to work this morning, the discussion topic on the radio concerned sayings or expressions that people love or hate. I can't say I can think of any that I love to use, but I can think of some that really irritate me...

One is ""You can't have your cake and eat it."Grrrrrrrrrrrrr why not?!

Another is the use of the word "issues". People use it all the time and often inappropriately. The announcer who does the traffic report on the radio who constantly says things like "there's been an accident on the highway that's causing traffic issues". No, it's not causing issues, it's causing delays.

Irritate me? Everything that sounds stupid and not funny a the same time ( "you can't have your cake and eat it! "- Of couse I can or "You can't say that!" I just did........."How was it?" Pardon me? ............"Thank you" For what exactly?..........."You should know better!" Really?.................."What's up?" Is this English?.............."You can't be free"....You wished.............''What is your long-term plan?" To keep breathing?.............."Do you love me?" Why are you asking?................"That was not polite!" So..........."Do you think I am stupid?" Truly: brilliant!)

A saying that I love: A buon intenditore poche parole ( to the wise: very few words)

"at this point in time" esp. when the word "now" works well

Reporters are often guilty of the inappropriate use of the word "actually", a feeble attempt to make the statement seem more true, when it should be used to convey a change. ie "she was supposed to turn left but actually turned right".

I wish I owned a bakery......then I could try.

My Vote goes to: ' He/she is not that into you' Simply based on it's
unbelievable over-use by all and sundry for every dating malady.

"My Banana bread was dry"........
"Well, that's because he's just not that into you"......Argh

Say something too many times & it starts to sound banal.

I thought of another one that I cannot stand. When somebody says "I like him/her as a person". I always want to respond with "as opposed to what? A Dog?"

My all time hated:

"In otherwords..." why weren't the first words good enough?

"To borrow from______ "(name of person who last spoke) .... why do you have to borrow from? Don't you have your own opinion? If you don't why are you being repetitive?

"think outside the box" ... WHAT?? we live in a box? Exactly what does thinking inside the box look like?

"going forward...." hmmmmm as opposed to going backward? Who does that really?

Ugh:
"Very unique" (Unique is an absolute and can't be modified).
"Going forward" (Do you mean proceeding?)
"Like..." (not).
"Your/there to (stupid to know you're/they're wrong, too.)"
"(Salmon) Fishers"
"Intelligent design"
"Floundering"
"I dis/disrespect people who use this word as a verb"
"420" (active brain cells)
"Bud/Buddy"

Like:
"I'm so hungry, my stomach thinks my throat's cut."
"Truthiness"
"Plausible deniability"
"Foundering"
"Verbal diarrhea"
"It's all good/bad."
"That's redundant and says the same thing twice."
"Who took the 'C' outa' 'Rap'?"
"Please/Thank you... Sir/M'am"
"Those of you who think they know it all ruin it for those of us, who do."

I always wonder about people who say "to be honest" or "truthfully." I wonder was everything else you said a lie.

"I am pregnant"

I'm hoping that's one you hate...

I dislike any sort of overused pop culture references, such as:

"Show me the money."
"You had me at hello."
"You complete me." (which still makes me laugh)

Ok, so they're all from Jerry Maguire, but it's no secret that I believe Tom Cruise is the Anti-Christ (my apologies to Cameron Crowe, who I actually really love).

Cruise may be the Anti-Christ (‘though some would say that I am) but he sure as hell deserved an oscar for jerry maquire. This guy’s a better actor then fred flintstone no matter what else might be wrong with him.

Irregardless – I hate that one too BECAUSE THERE AINT NO SUCH EFFIN’ WORD!

Mo fro can also go, I have a friend who uses this all the time, but it’s a chat thing.
Yo can stay. I don’t mind yo. Especially in chat. It’s like saying hey or hi or what’s up.

I used to really hate it when someone would say, ‘not necessarily.’ Just a personal problem, I’m over it now.

‘like sh*t from a goose’ has always bothered me.

Here’s an odd one that bothers me, though I never hear anyone say it:
“For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.” Matthew 25:29

I’m kind of fond of the Flip Wilson version: “he who has nothing shall have less and that which he has shall be taken from him.’

He may have deserved his nomination, but he did not deserve to win over Geoffrey Rush. Sorry. I do appreciate the comparison to a cartoon character, however.
