Geez, at this point every song I like is retro. Impossible to boil it down to one song, but as this is a looking for love forum, I will go with:

Well it likely has been answered in the other replies but I do believe that is "Home for a Rest" by Spirit of the West (BC Band) That is a kick-ass song... and even more so when you have been touring some foreign country and take the CD up at a Hostel bar and get them to play it...

I did that in Oz the Canucks had to all jump up... and considering,, many of us had been drinking much of the time we were there.. it hit home a little more

Who remembers Baltimora's "Tarzan Boy"

or "You Spin Me Round" (Like A Record) by Dead Or Alive
and then there is "A View To A Kill" or "Hungry Like a Wolf" by Duran Duran

Now I remember the name "Spandau Ballet" but I'll be damned if I can remember what songs they did I think one was called "True" or uh huh huh haaaaah hah" .. I just remember hating most of their stuff...
.. but there were sure some odd names for bands in the 80's (Haircut 100????)

Aaah hell here is an 80's list of memorable songs that came to mind

"Big Balls" - AC/DC

"Cum on feel the noise" and "Bang your head" - Quiet Riot

"Down Under" - Men At Work

"The Lovecats" - The Cure

I Ran (So Far Away) - A Flock of Seagulls

"99 Luftballons" (AKA 99 Red Balloons) - Nena

"Jessie's Girl" - Rick Springfield

"I Love Rock and Roll" - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

"Good Thing" - Fine Young Cannibals

"Loveshack" - B-52's

"Safety Dance" Men Without Hats <=- killer video Ok you can add PoP Goes the world to this one too..

"Bela Lugosi's Dead" - Bauhaus

"Mr. Roboto" - Styx

"My Sharona" - The Knack

"Tainted Love" Soft Cell

"Rosanna" - ToTo

"Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" - David Bowie

"Ballroom Blitz" - um.. well I forget who did this.. I want to say Pat Benetar

"Luka" - Suzanne Vega

"Jenny 867-5309" - Tommy Tutone

"Thriller" - Molester Jackson er... I mean Michael Jackson

"Rock Me Amadeus" - Falco

"Physical" - Olivia Newton John

"Valley Girl" - Frank Zappa

"88 Lines for About 44 Women" - The Nails

"We're Not Gonna Take it" Twisted Sister

"Mickey" - Toni Basil

there is an endless list... I wonder how many I'll be able to name from years 2000-2010 so far there isn't a very memorable start

A While back Someone flooded the newsgroups with rush. I Think I'm missing 2 albums. Someday, I'll buy them, but it wont be this week.

As for my personal "retro" songs, I guess my all time favorite is timeless. Weird Al.

He has some great parodies of some lousy songs, and the polka's... Oh the Polka's!

Speaking of polka.. a number of years ago, one of the local college radio stations had a whole show dedicated to polka covers of well known 80's/90's rock tunes.. it was hillarious...

which also reminds me of the time they did a whole show of covers of "Stairway to Heaven"

after 30 minutes of stairway to heaven, it got a bit tiring.. but I have to say the polka version and the reggae version were pretty good..

Damn... now I have to pull out that CD again.. I have a weee bit of SOTW stuck in the head..

oh by the way is their site:

oh and "Save this House" (circa 1990) has to be their best album yet... Although after I saw them in concert in Calgary at the Jack Singer, I ran out and bought their Open Heart Symphony (circa 1996) album as well..

I don't think I'd ever seen people rush down to the floor during a performance at the Jack Singer Concert Hall for anyone else.. but it happened when they Played "Home For A Rest"...
I still would have preferred to see them somewhere that I could have had a pint of brew in the hand... it seems to go with the celtic music

Hmmm Didn't Tiffany also do that Manic Monday song??

I think Debbie Gibson is now doing porno movies or something.. I do remember her in some movie of the week once on CTV but not heard much of her since the 80's
