How else would he have handled it? There was nothing to take offense at... and on national television, if there was, unlikely a scene would be made...

*gone to find the hand lotion..maybe Cnote will "sniff "me*

I have heard of some pathetic topics before but this has to be the offical winner for the first one of 2008 . As my mother used to say " if you can't say something nice...( or smart ) then say nothing at all " I personally think that if the forums have resorted to topics like this one..we should all just decide to say..Nothing at all ! P.S. some I am sure will comment that since I had nothing nice to say I should not have commented on the topic at all .....? True enough but how would folks now what Posts are pathetic if no one takes the time to tell them ?...lol

Awwwww shucks and I thought POF was for everyone ? I guess no one else is allowed to read or post in regaurds to anything happening out of their country/province.:( That makes me sad, almost smacks of sensorship..and at the very least...making British Columbians sound like a very non-friendly threads group . Just as people are able to post cheery positive comments if that is how they feel reguarding the topic , people should be able to make non positive comments as long as they are not using names..profanity or down right dirty tatics in order to do so . Enjoy your evening Tyee, I am sure it will be spent wisely thinking up more topics for such a usually friend group of people to comment on and about .

How do you know I was not able to see / hear the subject at hand ? There is such a thing as whatching other provinces news casts ya know. Go figure , they have all sorts of high tec ways to do so these days, including ..gasp..the internet. As you folks like saying out there to cover your behinds when saying something that is going against the inner circle ...just my .2 cents worth :)

But I would hope that it will be haunting him in a good way of course. It was/is great watching to current two of them together on the noon news these days. Great for a giggle, and lets face it there isn't much to giggle/smile about on the news these days if ever.

The title of this thread just keeps taking me back to "smelt colon"

Tony Parsons, who for so many years has anchored the news with sport scaster Squire, is retiring.

Tomorrow is Tony's last appearance on Global.

The special tribute to Tony will probably make me feel old.

I once heard The Squire describe himself as a "pencil necked geek"
Squire is OK in my books

Bye Tony, enjoy your retirement.

It was sweet, you could hear his voice wasn't as steady at the end, choking up a bit :)

It was a touching tribute to Tony, a great send-off.

We may see him again, for there are unconfirmed reports that Tony is being tempted by a job with CHEK TV (Victoria) in the spring.

Global does not have the television broadcast 'Rights' to the Olympics... CTV does.

CHEK is a private enterprise now, owned primarily by a chief shareholder and many of the employees. It was one of the only ways to keep the station operating and keeping a local television station alive on the Island. CHEK is not part of Global.

I saw Tony's new book on the shelves tonight, right next to Mike McCardell's new book... nice xmas gift I say.

It you would've payed attention.....^^^^^
That jacket was given to Squire from Tony.....it was a gesture from Squire.

As for Mikes stories, he's real, brings reality to television......not always fun but reality.
I quite like his style.....

I can only hope whoever you claim to teach pays more attention to you......

Please correct me if I am wrong (which I am sure you will do BE, just joking) but I thought Charlie died a few years ago and Tony got another dog. OR did he call the new dog Charlie as well?

I enjoy the playful bantering between Squire and who ever is the anchor. I think Squire is a good sport and can shovel it out as well as he can take it, which to me is a rarity.

At BE and poster above:
Yes Charlie (a golden C0cker Spaniel) did die a few years back.
Tony now has a terrier mix named Jack, a real cutie....

I love Squire Barnes! He's usually the entertaining one...

I remember when he announced on TV that his mother signed him up for online dating... always wondered if he was on pof.........

Someone should send Squire an email with a link to this thread.

On Fridays Squire now does a segment cooking Indian food with Bal Arenson on Global TV's Noon News, and he's such a trooper. She clearly enjoys it too.

Tomorrow is Tony's last appearance on Global.

He is back!

I remember the emotional farewell when Tony Parson retired and made his last appearance from the Global TV news desk.

So imagine my surprise when this afternoon I selected Channel 3, CBC News, Vancouver and Tony presenting the news.
