Wow, our team is going on a shopping trip. Look guys as good as Kerry was or WAS NOT, (like at the Grey Cup, was he there??? way to nervous to play), it is not all that bad. Change is part of the game. He is up in age. An injury and then what? We would be up the field without much???

When Eric informed us I thought, not a bad move. It seems money, money and yes more money is what a decison these days! It is sometimes more about the bottom line than the talent. We will survive. After all we were at the top, where can we go from here!!!

Everyone has an opinion and I look forward to yours.

I don't know if trading Joseph was really such a bad move.

I believe his contract will expire after next season, and at that time he'd be likely to seek a more lucrative salary, and the Riders would recieve nothing in return.

By trading him now, after he's had the best season of his career, the Riders are able to get something in return for him. The acquirement of 2 players from Toronto will fill vacanct starting positions on both the offensive and defensive lines.

Also, if the league salary cap wasn't an issue, the Riders mayave been more willing to retain Joseph.
But when there's a limited amount of money that must be spread among all players, it maybe doesn't make too much sense to overpay an aging quarterback, when money may be better spend by spreading it around to ensure talent at all positions.

Ah Jack, that is not a good attitude. Cannot win every year or five in a row. Life of the sports world. Beleive me I know. There is never any security or solid predictions of who will win.Look at the Super Bowl outcome.

Well my prediction make me some green, I took tNY to win the Super bowl, They beat Tampa/ The Cowboys/and the Packers.Reminds me of the thSuperbowl Champs, The steelers. a wild card team, Won all there games on the Road, just like the NY, never write any team off. As far as Kerry being traded to Toronto. We got in return, a very good offensive lineman/ D linemen. and a 1st round pick in the Canadian draft.Ithink Kent Austin and also Ron Langcaster said the same thing, We have a young QB named Drew Tate, among a few other qb's coming up, out with the old, in with the new. section 204 rocks

Crandel is not out guy....he sucks...
Jiles from Edmonton....really really sucks..

Everyone thinks Tillman is this really really smart guy.....WRONG!....
He did not win the Grey Cup....Past Management who put the players in place....

Now if anyone thinks that Jiles or Crandel are good.....LOL.....
But I do like Durant...He is a bit stiput at times....but young to learn from his mistakes. And when is someone going to realize that we have to pay money for a QB!

We are done for this year....DONE LIKE PIE!...
Too many injuries, and there is no way we can bounce back!....
BUT! the future does hold promise....which in past years there was no hope..

OH! By the the way ET.....FIND A PUNTER! that can punt into the wind...and when kicking into the wind....Maybe mention that hang time is important!

GO RIDERS GO.....
YOu ET! have not impressed me yet!....if you can make a decision to trade KJ then you should of realeased Matts.....Everyone in the country knew he was one hit away from ending his carrear!...Could of saved some salary cap! and kept KJ!

I have to disagree
while Crandel might not be an Calvillo, KJ was not the guy either.
watched a game where KJ marched the ball down using some new reciever, this kid is doing everything to catch and make yardage short of throwing the ball himself, get to First and goal - Surprise! KJ calls his own number and hotdogs into the endzone with a front flip, that was not needed.
Sorry i did not really like KJ last year, and don't like him anymore this year either - the fact he plays somewhere else, only makes me like him less.
The riders have a deeper core than people are giving them credit for, so I think they have a better chance than people are going to give them credit for.
Yes offensive injuries are going to hurt the Riders, but won't stop them!

I'd agree with you if you were talking Al Ford winning the Cup with Bill Baker's team.

About the only thing I'd agree with you on is that Tillman didn't win the Cup... the Saskatchewan Roughriders won the Cup. Tillman was just a part of it, and he brought in the key people needed to make the Riders a championship team. Shivers and Barrett's only goal during their entire 7 year tenure was just to get a home playoff game. Maybe if they had demanded more from the talented players they had they could have won. That's why Tillman has 4 Grey Cups as a GM and Shivers has none. He knows simply gathering talent does nothing if you never get the most out of your players.

YOu ET! have not impressed me yet!

And he probably never will. Quarterback threw for 8,000 yards and 92 touchdowns? "Yeah, but he threw 3 interceptions! What kind of idiot can't even find players wearing the same jersey?" Defence had 72 quarterback sacks? "Yeah, but they allowed an average of 54 yards rushing per game! Where were they when the backs were shooting the gap? Chasing down a quarterback that didn't have the ball! Morons!" Team won the Grey Cup? "So what! Every team has won the Grey Cup! Come back when they win the Super Bowl!" Some fans just like to complain. Unfortunately I think 90% of the fans like that belong to the Roughriders.

I watch every rider game at home and when I get a chance to go and see it live I will. But after winning the cup last year there has been alot of band waggon jumpers going to the games just to party because we are winning. I see this whole thing happen when I was living in Calgary and the flames went to the finals.
This issue at the last Calgary game is a disgrace. They are talking about stopping the rider pre game party in the ball diamond because of these over intoxicated idiots.

Well we'll see what happens with Burris. This might be the year, but he's been known to become his alter ego (Frank) in the playoffs. After their first game of the season, I thought Calgary might be the team to beat this year. Their mid-season struggles threw me off for a while, but they've regained the form they had at the beginning of the year that scared me.

I dunno... I just think we match up better defensively against Calgary's offense. As long as we can make it through BC, I think we've got a good shot. We're just going to have to control the line of scrimmage when we play the Lions. Get the running backs up the middle so there will be more room on the outside for Bishop to scramble on a few play actions. I know Calgary caught on to it in our rematch, but BC is a lot more aggressive than Calgary. They take the chances to make the big plays at the line and end up giving up big plays down field. With Flick, Fantuz, and Dominguez (or is Matt out again?) back, the Lions aren't going to be able to stop the deep plays by simply double covering Dressler and sending the house on Bishop. We've now got more than one receiver who can get open.

It's funny too... we were talking at work today about how many Saskatchewan players there are in the CFL right now. You've got 7 from Regina (Getzlaf, Hughes, Foord, Srochenski, Woldu, Flory, and Clermont), 5 from Saskatoon (Makowsky, Piercy, Guebert, Bell, and Maurer), 2 from Moose Jaw (Schultz and Barker), 1 from Caronport (Rempel), 1 from Humboldt (Bates), and 1 from Weyburn (Labatte). I don't know if that's got all of them, but I'm sure it's pretty close. Per capita, I'd say we're fairly well represented.

Now tell me how many Saskatchewanians are playing in the NFL...I know of one for sure.....and how many Canadian are totally playing down there?

Yeah, it didn't take long for Jon to get scooped up. But as for how many Canadians:

http://www.nflcanada.com/News/2008/09/02/6636181.html

Not really that great of numbers, but let's face it... how many NFL scouts actually come to Canada to look for talent in the first place? Most of them don't even take 3-down football seriously, so unless there's a lot of hype about a player (say like Jesse Lumsden), most of them aren't even going to pay attention to the CIS. I don't think Canadian players have as much chance anyway until University athletics programs catch up to those in US colleges. We need our universities to offer better training programs.

I think the only thing that will get them through that miracle ...not to say they are not good enough......is MAKING THEM BELIEVE

I don't think they have to believe anymore. It's now a fact. They are champions and they know it.

We're ready to compete with the likes of Calgary and B.C. because we've finally got the winning attitude that they've had for years. You can feel it throughout the entire organization. There are no excuses. This is a football club that takes to the field expecting to win every game. I think the only tougher thing than winning these games would be convincing those guys that anything less than another Grey Cup title is acceptable. They're not ready to climb down off that mountain just yet.

OK, NOW I am pissy!
Waht the ***K was Tillman thinking letting Ritchie Hall walk away?
if the Riders have ONE thing that is stable/dependable and arguably the best in the CFL year after year it is the defense, now the defensive cooridinator is the esks new head coach?????
I wonlt be cheering for the esks, but this is gonne make me re-think......

Hey sleeps: You got to look at it from the head office pointof view. Last year when they hired Miller that was Ritchies Walking papers as far as im concerned. And theres no question he will be missed. He did alot of Sask as a player and a coach. But you can't expect a guy of his caliber stay a Def coordinator for the rest of his life. He won a grey cup in 07 aswell, And Tillman had to let Austin walk aswell. The CFL is a development league and players andcoaches will come and go all the time as we have seen in the past 2 years. It is almost impossible to keep a Grey cup winning team together now that the NFL looks at the best in the CFL. And the CFL can sign the best in the CFL. Look at clermont to the riders. Would you keep Ritchie and not take Clermont? The CFL is a constant cycle. Lose one , gain one.

As Tillman stated, we're no longer the loveable losers. The Saskatchewan Roughriders are not only legitimate Grey Cup contenders, but under Tillman it has become a well-respected organization from top to bottom. I don't think we'll do all that bad if Marshall returns to Saskatchewan to take over on the defensive side of the ball. But indeed Richie is going to be sadly missed. Perhaps one day we'll get him back.

Hopefully with Clermont's signing and Gibson leaving for the Ti-Cats, this will be Dominguez's wake-up call to take a co-ordinator job with the team. He's got to realize his ability to walk in his later years of life is far more important than trying to prove to us all that he can still run and catch a football.

Tillman's done good so far signing a few key free agents. Now we've got Durant, Frazier, Williams, and Johnson locked in. Reading Mo Lloyd's comments it sounds like he wants to stay here, but who knows. I'm guessing it was either Kerry or Reggie who he was referring to when he said there were some players who wish they had never left.

That's what Tillman brings to the Roughriders... he somehow has a way to turn a franchise into something that makes players reconsider whether the grass was really greener on the other side. Kerry once signed for less money than he could get elsewhere. With the salary cap, it's not like one team can buy every good player, so eventually there will either be pay cuts or roster cuts. A playe really has to consider whetheror not they really want to make more money on a losing team. The money sure didn't seem to make K-Jo very happy, did it?

I think that's something Lloyd might take into consideration, though it sounds like the Lions are his other choice. I'm pretty sure that's why they let Clermont go; so that we wouldn't have enough money to counter their offer to Maurice. I guess we'll see. Tillman's got a few weeks to prevent that from happening.

I hate to ask this but I really don't know and I couldn't find the answer at CFL.ca
What does a player have to do or say to get ejected from a game?
I popped into a pub to pick up some take out food and the TV was on TSN A player ( # 98 ) was being escorted from the field in todays Winnipeg vs BC game.
I have never seen that before. The pub was playing music so I didn't catch what the ref said .

I don't even remember the last time it happened.

I'm pretty impressed with Durant this year. He's had a couple of bad games, but he always comes back. He's making smart plays. I remember McManus's first few years in the league and he threw a lot of pics. I see Durant fixing that part of his game a lot faster than Danny did. Of course it helps when you've got probably the best receiving corps in the league. I know Montreal's is pretty good, as is Calgary's and BC's, but we've just got way more depth there than they do, and we've had that depth for quite a few years now.

No One has anything to say about the Riders getting First Place after 33 years??
I remember a lot of shitty seasons over the past 30+ years, and a few "almost" seasons. It's nice to finally see a first place finish.

but we've just got way more depth there than they do
This team's depth is it's strongest point; and the biggest difference between the Rider teams of recent years and some of the shitty teams of the 80s and the 90s.
(I could be wrong but) I believe in 07 and 08 the Riders lost the most man games due to injuries of any team in the leaque. Despite this, they finished 2nd each of those seasons, and won the Grey Cup in 07.
This season, despite losing a couple of starting O linemen for the entire season, they managed a 1st place finish.
It's quite a difference from the mid 90s, when at the end of every season the Riders management would blame 1 or 2 injuries as the entire reason the team missed the playoffs.

Not to mention the early 00's when poor officiating was blamed for all of our woes. Funny how that worked, wasn't it? Austin comes in, stops making excuses, and suddenly the players are excelling. It's not like we always had bad players before... most of them went on to have success with other teams. Fact was we didn't have management nor coaching that expected anything from them. All they did was live up to the expectations. Which is what they did for Austin... he just happened to have some for a change.

THEY MUST NOT LOSE for the 4th time this year against the Stamps.

You mean in their 4th meeting, right? They won 2 of the other 3, and didn't lose the third one neither. It would be a shame if they started their losing streak to Calgary on Sunday.

To be honest... Calgary is a stronger team than Edmonton, but I like our chances against them better than I did against Edmonton. The Eskimos seemed to have our number this year. Richie Hall knows our team too well.

I hope it's as good of a game as it should be. The only thing worse than losing that game would be if it was like last year's West semi. But we don't have Bishop this year, so that should make a considerable difference.
