do not understand men on POF

Perhaps your text could have offered a bit of an explanation or you could have called him? It is not easy getting to know someone quickly but his response was rude!

Collectible Shows and Hobbies
Posted: 9/3/2018 1:23:26 AM
How many of you go to collectible shows of any kind? There are several in southern Ontario including antiques, toys, cars, music, books, etc. If so, what do you collect? I go to a lot of car based shows. auctions, races. How many others share a hobby?

Am i being Spammed by fake profiles?
Posted: 4/6/2018 4:15:47 AM
There are lots of fake profiles lately, everything from scammers to porn sites disguised as profiles, lots of fake and nude photos as well. The profile showing a photo of Elizabeth Taylor was a dead giveaway!

The other scam is young people in their 20s listing their age as 50-60 so they can find a sugar daddy. I report them and their profile is usually gone in a day or two.

Also, watch out for people who say they live in your city but are working overseas and want a penpal that will lead to a relationship...and then they ask for air fare home to visit you!

It seems that as POF has grown, they have lost the ability to monitor profiles, thereby letting in lots of scammers.

STILL SEARCHING FOR MR. RIGHT?
Posted: 2/24/2018 4:32:22 PM
My concern would be her answering the telephone from another dating site while on a date with you. I would find that rude. She should have let the voice mail take over and returned the call later.

Profile Scams?
Posted: 5/28/2017 2:51:25 PM
UPTOWNPICTUREGIRL...You are right, it's another scam. You can open a bank account in Canada from another country as long as that country deals with a Canadian bank. It is similar to going to your bank here and opening a U.S. dollar account that you can access from the U.S. Never put your name on someone else's account as the law may find you responsible for that account, including bads cheques, overdrafts, credit cards, etc.

A similar scam is when a company asks you to do some temporary work for them, then 'accidentally overpays' you, then asks you for the money back. Their cheque will bounce and you are out of money :(

POF actually has a SAFETY notice on the bottom of the page. Perhaps it is time people read it :)

What happened to the forums
Posted: 3/31/2017 5:51:54 PM
You are correct, no direct link to the forums from the home page. but if you go to your INBOX and scroll down to the UPCOMING EVENTS, that will take you to the forums page. I know people read them but I don't think there are too many people who respond anymore. In a related matter, there has not been any dances hosted or organized by POF people in a long time, well over a year. Perhaps the interest n the Toronto are has waned :(

Profile Scams?
Posted: 12/26/2016 5:08:06 PM
Yesterday I traded messages with a Toronto female who showed her age as 63 but when I asked she said she was 40. Her English was very poor. Then she said she was living in Ghana to take care of her mother and then she was coming home to the States. Toronto is not the States! Scam! I reported her yesterday and she was gone this morning.

If you think someone is scamming, make sure the messages are saved on the system so POF can read them and trace them. They will remove them.

Profile Scams?
Posted: 12/4/2016 6:39:10 PM
Hi Classy1953 - Your story is very similar to the ones that I have had happen to me from females, if in fact they really were females. Scammers can be either sex. They chat once or twice saying they want to meet. Then they ask for my email address so they can send newer photos. At that point I usually insist we meet face to face. That is when the story changes to 'I am working overseas as a government attache or nurse or astronaut (really had this one) or whatever story they make up. None of them are true as far as I can tell. As soon as they say they are out of the country, I report the profile as a scam. That is probably what happened to your 'gentleman'. I was on another site and after a few months I left as most of the contacts were scams like this.

I am glad you didn't get too involved or scammed out of money or your ID or anything. A few phony emails isn't too bad.

I now meet people through a local meetup group. We get together at different activities such as bowling, pool and games days, baseball in the summer. I used to go to lots of POF dances but it seems very few in the GTA suit my schedule. Oh well, we keep looking for the right partner and hoping we find her/him around the next corner :)

Profile Scams?
Posted: 9/26/2016 9:01:34 AM
Have you ever had a message from a new person who tells you how you are their perfect mate? You read their profile and think, 'we're not a perfect match but maybe we are good'. Then the other party asks for your private email address so she/he can send you a private message without POF censoring it. They she/he asks you for your cell number so you can text. Hmmm??? Then you notice the email address doesn't match the name of the person you are writing to. Then she/he says they are overseas on a work assignment for 'medical/computer/national security/humanitarian' reasons. So, you check online and find out that city or country where this person supposedly is has no Canadians doing that specific work. (just ask your federal MP for help) Add it all up and you may get a scammer :) What's the scam you ask? Well, if you text overseas, your cell bill may be pretty outrageous, much like dialing a toll number for $2.99 a minute! Or they will ask you for money at or ask you to help them recover their lost passport by calling a 'special number' in Ottawa (the number doesn't exist). I have had people on POF contact me this year and two on another site (a business website), first asking for my text number, then my email address, then asking me to send them a new passport. Of course, since I wasn't born yesterday, I didn't do it :) I did a little research online, contacted my MP and then filed a complaint with the site admin.

Be very careful of someone who doesn't want to meet you within a week or so! Be careful when they say 'I am working out of country', which may be true if they are scamming you from overseas! Be careful when they say they want to text you but not talk to you! Pick a local bar or restaurant or coffee shop where you know there is enough activity to protect you, even better of you know they have security cameras, and meet them face to face, maybe a few times :) Then enjoy a real match with a real person :)

Photos for Profiles?
Posted: 9/6/2016 2:34:06 PM
I am a photographer living in Toronto. If anyone in this area needs new photos for their profile, I will take your photos and send them to you at NO CHARGE :) Yes, free :) Why, you ask? I have seen too many very bad photos of people on POF and it makes it difficult to identify them when you meet them. A better photo may help you find your perfect partner. If you are using your high school photo from 40 years ago (experience), then it is time for a new photo :) If you have sunglasses on that block your face and your happy smile, then you should have a new photo. If you have a new outfit that you would like on your profile, then I can help you. Ready for your new photos? Send me a message and let's get it done.

dissapointed
Posted: 6/24/2016 12:51:47 PM
Adding a recent head and shoulders photo makes the ladies more comfortable about who they are contacting. It doesn't matter if you are tall, dark, handsome or rich, as long as you are honest and not hiding anything. Make your photo clear, no sunglasses or hat and make sure only you are in the photo. If you have a photo of you and Paul McCartney, they will want Paul, not you :)

Be polite and patient with your messages. I have sent messages that get answered in one day and as long as a month. Be positive in your messages. No one wants to meet a sad or negative person.

If you live near to a POF event, such as a dance or meet&greet, go. It is a great way to meet people.

It seems that some people have no scruples, no class and do not respect anyone's feelings or privacy. If you feel better without her on FB, and elsewhere, then you did the right thing.

Personally, I am like you, what happens between consenting adults behind closed doors is up to them. They don't have to share everything. They should be careful though, one day it may come back to haunt them, like a modern day version of 'The Twilight Zone'.

Does anyone take this seriously?
Posted: 4/3/2016 1:52:50 PM
Hi Greanize - I believe we met at a dance a few years ago and I hope we get to meet at a dance again soon.

I agree with you, that we sometimes over-estimate how many messages others receive. The lack of a reply may be due to a message that is not clear or poorly written. I know sometimes I have to search for the right words. I do try to answer every message, even if only to say, 'thanks but I am not interested', mostly from people who live too far. It does not cost anything to be polite but to be rude may cost you your good name and a future friend.

Keep trying, be polite, say what you mean, treat others the way you want to be treated. Good luck :)

Hi Charmed683 - if someone thinks your children are the plague, it is he who is ill, not you and not your children. I have dated ladies with children and it was not a problem, with the exception of lack of a sitter the odd time :) Then we stayed in, ordered pizza and pretended we were a family :) If it wasn't for the age difference, I would still be dating that young lady, who was about your age.

For everyone - don't worry about those who don't want you, it is their loss. Find someone who wants you, not just anyone who happens by, and you will be happy :)

Slo-Pitch in North York?
Posted: 3/26/2016 5:23:52 AM
I am looking for a mixed slo-pitch team or league in the North York area that plays weeknights. (Weekends are not good as I am at car races and shows) I have been playing for many years in the east end but would prefer something a little closer to home. I play shortstop, good glove, good arm, good bat :) If you are on a team that needs another player or know of a team, please let me know. Thanks :)

If you are getting a 'Meet me' or 'wants to meet you' notice by email, there isn't a message, just that notice that someone saw your photo and wants to meet you. That is usually from someone who has not read your profile.

If you get an email saying you have a message, you should be able to get the message once you log in. Perhaps you are on probation or something. They should be able to tell you within a day or two of your inquiry.

I know sometimes they are slow responding and maybe that is the case now.

Friday was practice and qualifying day, rain or shine or in between. There was lots of action with the trucks and many types of racing cars. I spent lots of time watching the cars being worked on in the main building and some time on the track. It rained a lot but the racing still went on. Here are lots of photos taken at the car race on Friday...

Valentine's Day dance at the Eton House, Toronto
Posted: 2/7/2015 5:11:28 AM

The Eton House is having a Valentine's day dance with a live band called 'Big Night Out' starting about 9PM, as well as a DJ. The Eton House is at 710 Danforth Avenue, 1 block east of Pape Avenue and the Pape subway station, on the north side. The Eton House is a neighbourhood bar with a dance floor, 2 pool tables, finger food and good service. There is a paid parking lot on Eton Street about 100 meters north of the Danforth. There is no cover charge. Come on out and bring your dancing shoes and your friends and maybe meet your Valentine :)

Seniors Club On POF...
Posted: 2/6/2015 3:20:31 PM
When you send a message, please say more than 'Hi'. Add a few sentences to show your interest and tell the other person about yourself. Please don't add the person to your favourites list before you send a message. Treat them the way you want to be treated.

In the past few weeks I have had 3 messages that only said 'Hi', nothing more, and then found the profile with no information on it. Regardless of your gender, you can send a polite message indicating your desire to meet and you can send a reply the same way.

FREE POF Valentine’s Mixer Vaughan @ Dublin Gate Irish Pub 7pm February 14 2015!
Posted: 1/29/2015 10:32:18 AM
I notice a lot of people who do not live in the area have signed up and that looks phony to me, including such places as St. Thomas (about 3 hours from Toronto), New York (about 8 hours from Toronto), and others, and it makes me wonder if the attendance is real or fake? Even the organizer/hostess is from Vancouver, so I doubt she will show up. Will all these people really show up or have they signed up just as a lark? I have no intention of signing up or attending an event that may be stacked with ringers or fake attendees :(

You 'lost' $11,000 to him? Are you crazy? How could you lose $11,000? Playing poker? Betting on the horses? Did you lend him or give him money? If so, then you can only blame yourself! NEVER give or lend anyone money! Not from POF or from the corner coffee shop or from work or your neighbour or your friend! Never! And don't come crying to us, it's not our fault, it's not the fault of POF, it's your fault, sad but true :(

Ex-Montrealers in the GTA?
Posted: 1/1/2015 6:48:08 PM
I am curious to know how many ex-Montrealers are living in Toronto and the surrounding area? I lived in Cote St. Luc and N.D.G. in the 60s and went to Westminster Public and then Wagar High School, followed by a year at Lachine Trade School. Perhaps we attended the same school or lived in the same area or knew the same people?

Would you be interested in having a get-together at a local bar some weekend? There is a neighbourhood bar on the Danforth that is near a subway, has lots of parking in the area and would be central for a gathering. They also have music and a dance floor, so we could have lots of fun and renew old friendships and start new ones. If you are interested, let me know by answering here or by sending me a message.

Are you a collector of old toys? If so, you should go to the 'Canadian Toy Collectors' Society' annual toy show, Etobicoke Olympium, 560 Rathburn Road, 9AM to 3PM, $10 admission. There will be all kinds of toys from dolls to trains to whatever people collect. It's a good place to start your Christmas shopping, especially if you are shopping for yourself :)
