It's not real science, just vague generalizations that fit many people. And astrologers NEVER can predict the future either.

Water dowsing pseudoscience or real science?

Total pseudoscience. There is no real science at all involved. It no more real than reading tea leaves. Of course you will have people that swear it works.

Great Guitar Players You May Never Heard Of...
Posted: 8/31/2012 6:22:33 AM

As I get older and I meet people playing guitar and they go on about this or that guitar player, I'm reminded of all the great players that never made the big time or were only there for a while. Some died before they were famous... some were well known in the guitar playing community but my list might start like:

Nick Drake
Wes Montgomery
John McLaughlin
Allan Holdsworth
Frank Marino
Peter Green

and all those great guitar players in all those cool early 70s italian prog bands like P.F.M., Banco, Osanna, Area, AlphaTaurus, etc.

John McLaughlin: I know who he is. I saw him live from the 3rd row. It was when the Visions of The Emerald Beyond album was out. But my favorite is Birds of Fire. Some of those other names are familiar too.

Creationism in schools
Posted: 8/27/2012 4:47:29 PM

Should schools respect the supposed "controversial view" of creationism vs evolution in science class? Should they be on equal ground as far as theories go? Should creationism be banned in a school setting? Do you think that people who don't believe in evolution should be taught creationism instead? Why or why not?

Creationism does NOT belong in schools. It is nothing more than biblical mythology. If they want to teach about it in some elective class that teaches about religions of the world. That may be acceptable. But it is not the truth. Otherwise keep it in the Sunday schools.

That is the best advice. I have found artists similar to other artists I like using Pandora.

I don't think you read it. The Free Energy Motor is HOAX! So here it is below.

free energy machine

"Dennis Lee has broken a lot of laws, but he hasn't broken the laws of thermodynamics." --Robert Park

Free energy machines are to physics what homeopathy is to chemistry and intelligent design is to biology.

A free energy machine would be a machine that puts out more energy than is needed to run it. There are no free energy machines, despite what Joe Newman and Dennis Lee say.

A free energy machine would violate the first and second laws of thermodynamics.

The first law, also known as the law of the conservation of energy, asserts that the amount of energy is constant and can be neither created nor destroyed, though it can be changed from one form into another.

The second law, also known as the law of entropy, asserts that the amount of energy put into a system will always be more than the amount of energy that system puts out. Put another way, the entropy of an isolated system will tend to increase over time.

Even though free energy machines and perpetual motion machines do not exist, they can be patented both in the United States and in Canada. Neither country requires a working model of a machine as a condition for obtaining a patent. Thus, there is no requirement that the machine actually work. [new] The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rule 608.03 Models, Exhibits, Specimens [R-3] - 600 Parts, Form, and Content of Application now states:

"Models or exhibits are generally not admitted as part of an application or patent unless the requirements of 37 CFR 1.91 are satisfied.

With the exception of cases involving perpetual motion, a model is not ordinarily required by the Office to demonstrate the operability of a device. If operability of a device is questioned, the applicant must establish it to the satisfaction of the examiner, but he or she may choose his or her own way of so doing.

Atheist with Christian bias

Its not just our language that is getting more antichrist but perhaps you noticed the subject and spirit of these philosophy forums seem to be getting more antichrist as well. It looks like God knew what He was talking about when He said the last generation of the New Testament church dispensation would be an antichrist generation.

Atheist with Christian bias

I'm what's known as a "Jewish Atheist". Sure, I don't believe in God or any biblical nonsense. But I do have my Jewish heritage/culture. And I will say "God Dammit" when I stub my toe too. But religion is not for me, believing in an invisible supernatural all knowing supreme being is just hogwash! God is a creation of Man and the Bible is a book of fantasy no matter what religion it is.

Sure it might be a hoax, but how do you know it's a hoax unless you look at the claiim with an open mind. Please tell me _how_ this particular claim is a hoax.

Why don't you show us a working Cold Fusion Reactor then? You are the one that has to prove it exists. I think if there was a working one it would be BIG NEWS with lots of EVIDENCE. There would be science & technology shows, magazine articles, etc. Extraordinary claims require Extraordinary evidence. So it is still a HOAX.

There wasn't a car until the first was created. There wasn't a fission reactor until the first was created.

That is true, but until it is successfully invented, bringing it up is totally pointless. And I doubt there will ever be cold fusion. It is just a hoax. So until there is a working cold fusion generator, it will remain a hoax. Besides that it is against the laws of physics. Only hot fusion exists, that's what powers the stars.

This allows you to quote a previous post.

Actually it is nonsense. There is no energy in empty space. I've heard that one before. You should be SKEPTICAL, NOT SUSCEPTIBLE. Use critical thinking. And how is this hypothetical machine supposed to harness it. Or any machine supposed to harness it? Space won't be empty if it is occupied by the "hypothetical machine", will it?

Neptune74:

Energy can not be created or destroyed. I can only change from one form to another. So where does this "Free energy" come from? Is it solar? Is it wind? Is it hydro? Or does this miracle machine just pull energy out of the air? Or maybe its that "vacuum energy" nonsense I've heard about.

Looking for good psychic in Toronto area
Posted: 2/28/2012 1:42:13 PM
There is no such thing as a psychic. They are ALL frauds. They just know how to read you and you are already gullible if you are looking for one. The difference between a Mentalist and a Psychic is that the Psychic is deceiving you while a Mentalist can do the same tricks but won't deceive you into thinking he is a psychic.

One of my favorites too, especially their first 6 or so albums. They did some great blues, and practically invented "heavy metal". Jimmy Page was also inspired by American blues from black blues musicians in the South.

Another Earth like planet, opposite to our orbit around the Sun !
Posted: 1/6/2012 8:58:14 AM
There was a British Sci-Fi movie about that done from 1969. It was pretty good for its time. It was called "Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun". - "Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, the creative forces behind the landmark sci-fi series "Thunderbirds," have crafted a feast of special effects. When astronomers discover an Earthlike planet on the opposite side of the sun, they send Col. Glenn Ross (Roy Thinnes) to investigate. He finds a world that's a mirror image of Earth: Everything looks the same but is backward. "

Atheism and Dating

My girlfriend knows I'm an Atheist. In fact I gave her an audio book copy of "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. We both come from Jewish upbringing. She's not much of a God believer and especially doesn't like organized religion anyway. Frankly shes doesn't believe in God as a supernatural supreme being that created the Universe as most religious people believe.

Worst Job You Ever Had...
Posted: 12/20/2011 4:31:38 PM
I worked as a "process engineer" for a Japanese Tier 1 auto supplier. The worst job and company I ever worked for. I was put into a job I had no background in into a dept. that I wasn't even interviewed in. The last job I had before that was a Tool Design Engineer in aerospace. I had to deal with a bunch of procedures and red tape I had no familiarity with. My first day on the job one of the engineers told me about the high rollover rate there. He said he saw people quit on their first week of the job. They were a sweat shop. They expect you to work lost of unpaid overtime. That was the worst job/employer I ever had.

Good question! I mean I haven't heard any new bands since 2000. I do know of current artists that I like but they play blues and blues/rock so they are really sticking to old school. Such as Joe Bonamassa for example.
