If you knew you were dying - Would you have a BUCKET List?
Posted: 1/16/2009 7:43:54 PM
Why would anyone wait until they hear that they only have a few months to live before they actually start living? Each day is a gift and we should enjoy it to its fullest.

I started my bucket list long, long ago and am continually adding to it. Each new adventure and experience and how we interpret and learn from those experiences determines whether we are simply existing or actually living.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

prime minister Dion set to take power
Posted: 12/1/2008 3:20:29 PM
Unfortunately it is legal. The Governor General will review a document signed by Dion, Duceppe and Layton. This document outlines how the coalition will govern the country for the next 18 months to 2 years. The GG will decide whether or not to allow the coalition to govern the country or she can decide to call another election. Either way, it's going to end up costing you and me money.

The TSE dropped more points today than another other day in history and the dollar also dropped. In such an unstable economy I cannot believe that these supposedly intelligent men would do this. How are Canadians expected to have any confidence in the economy when we cannot even have confidence in our electoral system. We had an election and we chose a winner and now a bunch of sore losers can turn that desision around just like that??? The thought of Canada being run by a bunch of corrupt Liberals again makes me ill... What a crock of sh!t.

PS: the new cabinet will be composed of 18 Liberal members and 6 NDP members. There will not be an Bloc members in cabinet.

How would one survive winter in Canada, Ontario, Kingston?
Posted: 12/1/2008 5:34:24 AM
Hello SirSeptember,

As others have noted Kingston has tons of restaurants and pubs/bars, especially in the downtown area. Pretty much anything goes as far as a dress code ... a nice pair of jeans and dress shirts will get you in to pretty much any venue.

As the poster before me noted, it is a very damp cold and while minus 4 doesn't sound too cold, it can be biting when there is a a strong wind blowing off the lake. Make sure you bring or buy a good pair of gloves and warm boots and of course you will need a toque (aka a hat).

If you are looking to get out an meet some fellow POFers while in town, we will likely be holding an event some time in February so keep an eye on the forums for details.

Bravo, Gem, Bravo! Yes, of course, you can count on me to help out at future events.

Dinner was great and the food was well worth the wait. It was nice catching up with everyone and making some new friends. The Amigos were especially well behaved last night.... what's up with that??? LOL Thanks to Willy (Tim) and MyCountryBoy (Paul) for keeping me up on the dance floor... and a special thank you to McGyver for the escort to my car.

It was great meeting so many new people and I hope you had as much fun as I did. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Merry Christmas!

Posted: 11/26/2008 6:28:53 AM
Hello McGyver.... yes it is a GREAT way to meet people. I have made some really good friends by attending the events.

We normally have 5 or 6 dance-type events through the year either at Raxx or the Stallion plus there are a number of camping trips in the summer months. I believe there were 4 camping trips this past summer.

If you decide to attend, just find either Geminiiam or me and we will introduce you to some of of the regulars.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone ... not sure about dinner yet but will let you know. Now I need to find my reindeer antlers ....

Hello and welcome blueroze. Days Road is just west of Gardiners Road. The Stallion is right across from Scandesign. As for dress... pretty much whatever you are comfortable in. Last year a lot of people dressed up and others came in jeans and T-shirts, so it is really up to you.

The countdown begins...

DRIVE INN MEMORIES?? ANYONE??
Posted: 11/6/2008 6:26:14 PM
I remember mom and dad putting my sister and me into our PJs and we'd jump into the back of the family station wagon with our pillows and blankets. I can't remember any of the movies we saw back then but I remember the popcorn.

Enter the teen years... we'd pile into cars and spend more time "socializing" than watching movie. Of course there were always doobies being passed back and forth and again... popcorn.

I took my son to the drive inn regularly when he was growing up, and you guessed it, popcorn was always on the menu.

I still love going to the drive inn. I just need to find me someone new to share the popcorn with.

Can women like sex, just for the thing itself?
Posted: 11/4/2008 6:34:10 AM
Sure we can but I do think that sex while in a relationship tends to be more fulfilling than one nighters. The more time you spend with someone in and out of the bedroom the more you get to know his pleasure points and he gets to know yours as well. It boosts your confidence too knowing that what you are doing to him/for him is driving him crazy. And there is nothing sexier than confidence.

Hey Woodswalker,

From the 401, take the Gardiners Road exit and head south. Follow Gardiners Road and turn right onto Development Drive (I think it is about 8 or 9 sets of traffic lights). Raxx is on left.

See you there.

Posted: 10/24/2008 11:41:27 AM
Hey Jennydots, Homespungirl and SensualSher: as Paul (aka MyCountryBoy) points out, we were all in the same boat at one time. I found that coming out for dinner was a great way to meet some of the regulars -- it's much easier to chat and get to know people over dinner because once the band starts it gets harder to carry on a conversation (jeez, does that sound like I'm getting old? LOL) We do our best to watch for newcomers so that we can make them feel welcome but if we miss you just find one of us and we will introduce you around.

I agree, it is very hard to put yourself out there and come out to an event not knowing anyone but I'm pretty certain that by the end of the evening you will have met some great people and will see why we refer to the Kingston POFers as Plenty of Friends.

Other favourites include:
Ohhhh... the little darlins.

stop picking on FB? Why? If we stopped picking on him he'd have nothing to b!tch about. The guy is either full of sh!t and just likes stirring the pot or he really is an idiot. I expect it is the latter since he seems to have difficulty putting together a simple sentence ...

People can be honest without being rude. If I'm not interested in someone because I am not attracted to him, I let him know ... but in a nice way. The world would be a whole lot nicer if everyone showed a little kindness instead of being rude.

^^^ Good Gawd, man, what planet are you from? I guess I must be in the minority because I don't give a rat's ass how much you own or have ... perhaps it is just the skinny barbie doll types that you seem to be attracted to that are interested in your gold card. They need some way to pay for their manicures and pedicures and implants

You know it is one thing to have preferences about the type of woman you are looking for but there is never any excuse to be outright rude.

Wow, this thread has been going for almost two years ... tres interesting.

I think that there are a number of factors in play with the over 40 crowd. By the time we reach 40 we are pretty much set in our ways. Our careers are established, we have our routines, our group of friends, our home life and for some it can be difficult to think about upsetting that balance .

At 40, we've also come to know what we are looking for in a partner. There are certain qualities I look for and there is nothing quite as magical as meeting that person that you share those qualities with but if you can't get on the same page with regards to everyday life then things can go south pretty quick. I think that maybe it was easier when you were in your 20s because you really didn't know yet what you were looking for. Your Mister "Right" when you are 22 may be Mister "What the hell was I thinking?" when you are 42.

I also find that a lot of men that contact me are either in their 20s or in their mid to late 50s. Where are all of the 40-something men? Are they all looking for 30-something women?

Why Do Relationships FAIL?
Posted: 10/9/2008 9:00:15 AM
Another key to keeping a relationship alive is intimacy -- both physical and emotional. It is human nature to want to be needed and loved and valued.

Also something that has not been mentioned is the simple fact that people change over the years. I know that I'm a much different person now than I was when I was in my 20s. This is why communication is so important.

Let's face it, relationships take work and if either or both halves of the couple stop trying or become complacent then it won't be too long until things deteriorate and you wake up one day wondering how did we get here.

Time limits on spousal support
Posted: 9/30/2008 11:51:30 AM
In Ontario we have "no fault divorce". So no matter who does the leaving the spouse with the higher income is left on the hook for paying spousal support. So a wife can decide to the end the marriage and if the husband makes more money, he has to pay spousal support which is something ridiculous like 40% of the difference between the two incomes. And as far as a time limit goes, the courts take the the age of the spouse with the lower income and adds that to the number of years married. If the sum of those two numbers is 65 or higher spousal support lasts forever. Also, if there are children involved the spouse pays child support PLUS spousal support. I have no problem with the higher income earner paying spousal support for a set length of time so that the lower income earner can get back on their feet, but forever? Seriously???

The whole system is based purely on income and has nothing to do with expenses. So spouse A could be living in a house that is paid for and spouse B could be paying $800/month mortgage payment but the two may receive the exact same amount in spousal support. How is that fair? And how is it fair that, as other posters have noted, someone can sit on their butt all day watching soaps while their "supporter" is expected to keep them in the lifestyle that they are accustomed to? And did you know that if the person paying spousal support remarries then the new spouse's income is also factored in? Talk about a backa$$ed, antiquated law.
