Ave Maria... has always been a fave of mine.

Now, as for the memorial/party/dance after... well, here are a few must have tunes:

Dancing Queen - with the disco ball up on the ceiling of course!! LOL
Here for a Good Time Not a Long Time - Trooper
S.O.S. - Abba
Life is a Highway - Tom Cochrane
Simply the Best - Tina Turner

so many great tunes.. It will be one hell of a party... To bad I won't be there!! LOL

Hockey game starts at 7:30 p.m. Band starts at 8?! Is Newlands going to have the game on upstairs?! If so, I would think that means the band start time would be at the earliest 10 or so?!

Oh Yeah - GO CANUCKS GO!!!

VALLEY DINNER AND DANCE NIGHT ..MARCH 21ST 8 PM
Posted: 3/17/2009 10:58:58 PM
Hope it's not a problem coming after the hockey game is over (watching at home). If it ends up I'm not able to get in, well, at least it's only a 5 minute drive back home!! LOL

As for the music, I have to confess that I have requested and will request on Saturday some newer tunes. There's alot of great music. Of course, nothing beats classic rock.

MARCH HARE MISSION AT THE BIG B SALOON SAT FEB 23rd 2008
Posted: 2/25/2008 8:48:20 PM
I guess I did have an angel looking over me (quoted from one of the security dudes that night). With about 10 minutes left before 2 a.m. I had unfortunately left my wallet in the washroom (ladies). Five minutes later I realized it while dancing on the dance floor. Yes, that was me - the crazy lady rushing off the dance floor and running into the bathroom and every other direction. Frantic as I was I checked with security and he suggested I check at the bars. No luck at back bar. As I was walking towards the main bar at main entrance I could see my wallet sitting on the back counter of the bar.

Just want to say thank you to whoever turned it in. My life was in there - I.D., car
keys, etc. Yes, all my i.d., money, car keys and everything was in tact.

I thought it was a good idea to let everybody know about this as it truly did remind me that there are good people out there.

If anybody knows who may have turned it in, I would sure appreciate knowing or perhaps if they read this I will just say a big 'THANK YOU' now.

Yes, that was definitely a hard life lesson... that I am sure I will learn from.

And yes, I know - I was very fortunate/lucky.

BTW - did have a great time less the excitement at the end.

My girlfriend said the ribs/caesar salad was to die for btw!!

Looking forward to seeing some of my fellow POFers at the dinner in Abbotsford this Saturday.

Yes, the snow is coming down here in Abbotsford. Unable to arrange to hitch a ride with anybody so for now I am going to have to bow out.

Yes, call me chicken (guilty as charged!!). Kind of ironic as I was also going to be bringing chicken wings tonight!!

If I am able to make arrangements for a ride or I see the snow letting up some, I'll be there - along with my 70 homemade buns!! Better late than never right!! LOL Good thing I can freeze them!!

Anyway, I truly hope that everyone that comes out to this event tonight has a great time!! PLAY SAFE (that includes while curling)!!!

Thank you to all those who have indicated what they will be bringing for the Potluck.

I will also be bringing coffee/tea - which will be complimentary for POFers. However, if you want pop you will have to purchase from the cash bar. Only so much that I can bring.

Please note that bringing your own alcohol on the premises is not permitted. There is a cash bar to purchase your drinks. Also, consumption of alcohol is only permitted in the lounge and nowhere else in the facility.

They have graciously given me the green light to bring coffee and tea, so hope you will respect their guidelines.

Hard to believe that the event is just around the corner...

For those attending the potluck, you can either post on the forum here what you intend to bring or you can send me a note @ anim336.

I will post an updated menu based on forum/e-mails every evening so those attending can see what is already on the menu.

FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER

NO KITCHEN FACILITIES. Therefore, remember to bring chafing dishes or crock pots, if required. Also, bring your own serving utensils.

If the dish you are bringing needs to be kept warm/plugged in, bring it in when you come and I will do my best to ensure it stays warm. Keep in mind though - simplicity is the key here. As for other items, I am thinking that considering we are at a curling rink, keeping things cool should not be an issue.

You may wish to put your name on your dish to avoid any confusion. I plan on having everyone take away their dish at the end of the Potluck to avoid any dishes being left behind (as well as space limitations). Sorry, no clean up crew to do dishes. Everyone is on their own.

Paper plates and cutlery will be provided. Once you are finished eating, if you could dispose of your dirty dishes in one of the garbage cans, it would be greatly appreciated.

!!!Well, that's it for now. Look forward to adding to the menu!!!

I look forward to co co-hosting the event with Carl Lingus69 with Sama as the Host.
I’ll be taking care of the Potluck - organizing/setting up as well as anything else that may come along throughout the evening. Ill be sending more info later this evening under a separate note in the forum re: Potluck.

Sama is taking care of organizing the Curling, which is a fabulous way to jump start the evening.

It’s great to see that there are experienced curlers in the pond who are willing to assist those who are taking this opportunity to try curling for the first time. IT TRULY IS A WIN-WIN SITUATION. KUDOS to all of you!!!

Given the wide range of activities happening throughout the evening, there should be a little bit of something for everybody.

Keep in mind that Blaine Sternin will be taking care of the Karaoke so any music requests direct to him prior to the event. Hope you can have ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’. I am sure I can get a few volunteers to join me with our rendition of the song. BTW - no, I can’t sing but I sure have fun trying. Thinking - I better go find those tambourines of mine!!

I’m confident that those attending will have a great time. Look forward to meeting you on the 26th!!!

I was really looking forward to this but call me 'Chicken 2'. Let's just say that for everyone's safety I don't drive in the snow!! LOL

If there is anyone in the Townline/Maclure area of Abbotsford who has room for one more, I wouldn't mind getting a ride. Otherwise, I will not be attending. Send me an e-mail directly.

I don't have a problem cabbing it back home if need be. After all, I have to make it home safely as I am going to be Santa's helper at a staff children's Christmas party tomorrow. Anybody have elf shoes I can borrow!! LOL

If I don't make it, hope everybody has a great time and be safe.

Different types of events
Posted: 9/19/2007 10:17:23 PM
What about an Amazing Race type POF event?! I know the company I work for did that as a team building function after a meeting and there was nothing but positive feedback. Of course, it would be an event that POFers would have to prepay for directly to the company taking care of the event. It would definitely be an event where people would have to work as teams and in the process a great ice breaker. BTW - I do not have a vested interest with any such company (for those of you wondering).

Different types of events
Posted: 9/19/2007 8:56:09 PM
Laser tag would be great. However, still being a rookie at all this POF stuff, I tried earlier in the year to put a thread together about tennis and didn't get positive feedback. Regardless, it won't deter me from someday perhaps co-hosting a POF event with someone. I definitely like the idea of some type of activity other than at a pub and alcohol involved. What a wonderful concept. Has anybody in the past ever tried to set up some type of drop-in at a community centre that is sports related? Not sure if that is feasible but just another idea. Yes, I am leaning more towards sports related activities of some type but just my thoughts. Another thought...what about ice skating. Just throwing ideas out there. A movie night?!

My loonies worth!! LOL

Misseyes and Wyldekatt - thank you both for making your fellow POFers feel welcome at this event. I can truly say that this was one of the best POF events I have attended to date. It was my first time at Sawbucks and be rest assured not my last. It's a great place. Not to big a crowd (perhaps there is a benefit to having two POF events in one night!) just the right amount for the venue. And of course, it was topped off by a great band the Wannabees and friendly POFers. Thanks to all!! And a big THANK YOU to the photographer(s) who respected those of us who didn't wish to be in the photo gallery - camera shy - guilty as charged!! See you soon.

It Is Football Season CFL Style Once Again:
Posted: 8/15/2007 11:01:15 PM
Will be interesting to see how the Lions respond this week?! 2 game losing streak possibly 3 if they don't win this week.

Last week's game was entertaining. Lions had their opportunities to put the Bombers away and didn't. Shot themselves in the foot.

Hope the upcoming game is a good one. As a fan that's all one can wish for. Obviously, a win would be nice.

Will be watching on t.v.

Enjoy the game all you Lions fans... GO LIONS GO!!!

CRUISE SHIP PARTY INTEREST
Posted: 8/12/2007 7:37:04 PM
Talk about timing. I have been looking into cruising for the past few months now as I was planning my first ever cruise for this fall and was debating about whether I wanted to do the cruisin thing on my own.

This would be great for the single person who didn't particularly feel comfortable traveling solo (uh.. guilty as charged!!). Will travel solo but the option of doing a group cruise definitely intrigues me. Also, as it would be my first time cruise, I wanted it to be a short one just to get my feet wet to see if I liked cruising or not.

Have to admit that I would be interested in a land/cruise idea where you either spend a few days prior/after to go do some sightseeing/go see Mickey/Minnie or whatever. Somewhere with tennis courts would definitely be a bonus!!

Personally, with time constraints, I think I would opt for air travel vs. car although a road trip could be a mini vacation in itself. LOL Although, the coach idea could be a factor as well. Depends on the $$$ if the savings are substantial to warrant it - saving money vs. time.

As brought to our attention by a fellow POFer, I will be looking into getting more detailed info about the vessel. Even though the price may be right, there are definitely other factors to consider as well.

As a side note, I am going to Vegas in Oct to see Elton John!! I was wondering if there are any fellow POFers who would be interested.

Thanks BNT for gathering all the info. Look forward to the updates.

I live out in Abbotsford and actually started this thread hoping I would get interest. I haven't checked this thread for quite awhile obviously as I didn't seem to be getting much interest way back in the spring. Hence, the event I was hoping to get organized kinda fell by the wayside.

I am scheduled to play in the North Shore tournament this week but I would definitely be interested in hitting with anybody starting next week. For me, it would have to be evenings. I am more a doubles player vs. singles but I am game to do drills and just hit some tennis balls back and forth with whoever and whatever skill level.

A twosome would be great but if we could perhaps get a few more people interested we may be able to sneak in some doubles play as well. Public courts are hard to come by out here as it is first come first serve. Yes, I realize that is the case wherever. I guess what I am trying to stress is that patience will most likely be necessary when it comes to court time. Our tennis club out in Abbotsford is resurfacing the courts this summer so there's that many more people jockeying for the public courts.

Also, tournaments and spring league feed the competitive side of me. I guess what I am trying to say is is that there is a time and place for fun tennis vs. more serious. Let's just say I have been known to have way to much fun some days on the court just laughing. Yes, I admit, sometimes with the shot I just made!! LOL Thinking at times.. I really should go back to taking those USA123 lessons!! LOL

Hope to hear back from you and anybody else who may be interested in playing some tennis.

Don't forget the male pros are playing in the Rogers Cup. Should be some great tennis to watch!!

I haven't played in years. Is there a dress code at this club as well as - is a set of pink golf clubs allowed on the course?! LOL

fun event? meet new people? i don't think so!

I've been on this site since the summer of '06. Even to this date, I am still trying to figure out my fishing pole!! LOL (Yes, I realize it may be operator error...)

However, in March I noticed that they were going to be having an event in my backyard - Abbotsford. I told myself "You have no excuse.. it's in your own backyard!!"

I went albeit I did sit in the parking lot for a few minutes deciding whether to actually go into the bowling alley or head home. I did go bowling. Had a great evening. I am by no means a social butterly but did talk to a few people.

I had mentioned to Starlite444 who was there that I would be interested in going to the Shooters event out in Maple Ridge the following night but not on my own. Well, guess what? She took it upon herself to try and get me hooked up with someone out in Abbotsford who was going. The funny part about the connection was that the guy who I carpooled with, I already knew as our kids played hockey together. Speaking of hockey - got to see the Canucks game (they won!!) and then the band came on. What a great evening!! I did enjoy myself listening to the music as well as even out on the dance floor. Baby steps I keep telling myself.

Since that initial weekend of coming out per se - via POF - I have attended the Abba and Newlands events. Once again, even carpooling with a few POFers from Abbotsford (thanks - Celticspice).

Yes, I realize that I will have to continue working on meeting people and starting up a conversation. Some things are a Work In Progress. But I am enjoying the journey on POF and look forward to meeting new people through the site.

Since that first event I haven't looked back. Let's continue to enjoy ourselves at the events that are put on.

And as a NEWBIE to the POF events, I w0uld like to take this opportunity to THANK ALL of those event organizers and/or hosts/hostesses for all their hard work. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

See you at a POF event in the near future!!

my 25 cents worth

Thanks for responding. I have adjusted my profile. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. As you can tell, I am still trying to figure out this site.

Definitely, let's keep in touch.

CHANTELS SHOW LOUNGE with Dr. Strangelove - Sat. April 7th

BPG, once again I will ask the question. Does this lounge have food that you can order prior to band coming out?! I would be interested in coming early to hopefully throw some coats on some tables, if necessary.

Also, are there accommodations nearby that one can stay at for us out of towners?!

P.S. By the way, enjoyed last evening at Newlands!!

Was wondering if there would be any interest for some type of tennis social in the lower mainland, BC.

I enjoy tennis and was wondering if there were other POFers looking for other people to hit tennis balls with.

Hope to hear from you!!

I am interested in going on a cruise in the fall. Looking for a travel partner/group of people. Not sure yet where I am headed. Somewhere warm and Alaska doesn't cut it. It will be my first cruise. I travelled solo last year in San Diego. It was o.k. but made it difficult at the tennis resort as tennis is much easier when two or more are playing. Anyway, I would appreciate your feedback with posting things on here with regards to travel. Hope to hear back from you.
