I'd seriously like to make this one, as long as I don't have a camp that weekend... and I'd have to take a fairly early ferry back on Sunday as I have games that day.

Car Pool anyone?

First date etiquette: Should men pay?
Posted: 8/1/2009 2:04:42 PM
^^ I always buy the fund-raising coupon book and either don't have it with me or simply forget to use it!!

I'm a fan of sharing overall expenses, but I'm not a fan of the Dutch treat unless you are just friends. I'm appreciative and mildly impressed when he offers to pay, at least the first time out. I'd assume that if he asked me to pay half that he did not think the date was worth the price of a meal.

So far, it's never been an issue.

Something to note
Posted: 7/6/2009 10:03:25 PM

I was only trying to be helpful, sorry

No apology required.. sometimes humour gets lost in the forums... mine obviously did.. .

Personally I don't really think the problem is the events.. the "problem" is the hosts.

Golf events, Biking events, Grouse Grind events, Snowshoeing, Pub Nights, Camping events, Burger Nights.. these are not "old fart" activities, but they are hosted by old farts and so the young people stay away.

I think having a "young" host would be the key to attracting young people, no matter what the activity...

... but none of the young ones take on the challenge of hosting an event.

... so the young ones have no events to go to..

And the wheel goes round.

why not host an event that us elderly (lol) folks would not be interested in. eg, paintball, skate boarding, things like that

I was paintballing last weekend.. you mean I'm too old to do that?

POF Lessons
Posted: 6/25/2009 10:42:22 AM
My lessons learned are to trust my online instincts..
... yes, partly by photo (shame on me), partly by the written word (snob that I am).. but I've never yet been totally off-base when I listened to those instincts.

Even if the "chemistry" is not there, I have never yet met one man, or woman for that matter, whom I liked online that I disliked in person or vice versa.

I believe that most times that the 'signs' are there, in the eyes, between the written lines.. you just have to know how to read them.

and..

Hence I have concluded from POF:
# of women that want to date short men = # of men who want to date fat women.

I'm not quite sure how to read this.. that few women want to date short men and that few men want to date fat women .. or that, fortunately, short men like fat women and vice versa

Thanks Andie... I'm pretty familiar with my options as well.

Ironcially I took my lessons 3 years AFTER I started riding and I still learned tons!! .. so, oh yes.. I'm very aware how much difference that professonal lessons can make.

But lessons or no, it still will not eliminate my fears for her safety.. lol

Appreciate it..

Riding lessons are a given... but it's not "her" abilities or or sense of responsibility I'm worried about so much..

My fear is the other drivers... I wish I could get other drivers on the road to take "awareness" lessons

I was a rider for much of my life..
I lost a couple friends to biking accidents and I saw others crippled for life ... and for sure, I know how many close calls I had in all the years I rode .. yet I loved it and continued to ride ..

Now.... I have a 17 daughter who wants to ride.

What do I say? It scares me to death.

Photos that are not headshots/users face
Posted: 6/1/2009 2:01:00 PM
Does not matter if your "main" photo is close, clear and current... or even if 6 of your 8 pics are close and clear...

Apparently if even one of them is not quite close and clear enough, it's history.

I just lost two... one the them I can sort of understand as I'm skiing .. I suppose it could have been anyone (but it was not a the main photo)... the other deletion made no sense at all, although not super close, you could certainly tell it was the same person as in the all the other pictures .. and yet they left one other that is sideways and and not a clear head shot... confusion reigns...

Lesson learned... too bad though, the ones that disappeared are the ones who'd tell a viewer who I really am.

I'm not sure that their value for human life worsened...
.... however, I do think that the teens today are much more desensitized to the violence.

When Black Hawk Dawn and Saving Private Ryan are used as educational tools,
When Sweeny Todd and Repo, The Genetic Opera are the current days “musicals”,
When forensic science shows are the most popular on TV,
When the graphic violence in the news is no longer shocking, but everyday..

.. are we surprised that they are becoming desensitized?

Of that, I too could be guilty, but I'm not admitting it...

Your Best Camping Experience....
Posted: 4/3/2009 11:16:34 AM
Between my own personal camping and my involvement in Guiding for the past 11 years, I have more camping experiences than I can remember.. In that time frame alone I figure I have over 250 days spent in tents, tepees, tarp & rope shelters, even snow shelters...

The "Best Camping Experience Ever" ??

There are sooooo many... but probably camping at the Vancouver Zoo, listening to the lions, wolves and other animals roaring and howling at each other throughout the night.. and making coffee on a camp stove at 5:00 am watching the sun rise while talking to a couple of giraffes only 100 yards.

Yep.. those camps were rather surreal.

what does finding yourself mean
Posted: 3/4/2009 5:53:21 PM
HaHa... I always love Walts posts whether I agree with him or not.. you'll get no hate mail from me..

However.. although I too dislike the term.. I think I do understand partly where it comes from... and yes, mostly from women.

Many women spend a good deal of their life being everything to everyone else in their lives.. their husbands, their kids, their bosses, the PTA, the neighbourhood, the community.. often not putting themselves first.. it's not a bad thing and it's what we wanted to do at the time.

But then comes a time in their life, kinda like the middle aged crazies that men go through, whereby they are not needed by those around them so much and they now have the time and the inclination to step back take a look at their life .. and maybe check out other directions they may wish to go.

I'm not sure that they are actually "finding themselves" so much.. I agree that it is a stupid phrase as they were not 'lost', but they do need to make some changes in their lives.

Just my opinion of course...

a ....profile.... should be a daily journal
Posted: 3/4/2009 11:59:29 AM
Nope... I disagree.. it took me a long while to get my profile to say exactly what I wanted it to say... it gives only the basics and my friends say that it reflects the 'true me'.. those basics do not change much... My pictures are current and I might update an age or add a little addendum here and there, but no major changes anymore.

"I yam what I yam and I yam what I yam that I yam" ... I am not a product that has been updated ... and a new ad will not make me any more interesting than I was the first time round.
