Will there be a world war III?
Posted: 9/11/2006 6:42:49 AM
I don't think there will be another world war till this civilisation hits a low point. China and the USA would be the most likely face off, but their economic strength will be hard to lose to fight a battle that would leave any "winner". Both sides have heavily ideological heads of military and might where a nuke or ten could be used.

The most likely scenario though, would be when oil is redundant either through using it all, or the point where $500 a barrel oil makes all the clean options oil companies bought up and hid, financially viable. When the middle east has no more income, warlords will fight for what little there is, then they could turn on expanding into other areas like Africa, UN somehow passes a resolution speedily, China and Russia send token forces, blah blah.

Human history is so often a repeat, and it will again.

Has Bush Gone over the Edge?
Posted: 9/11/2006 6:35:03 AM
Prescription drugs that effect the way a person thinks and acts is a good thing. Unless they have the worlds most powerful military, economy and so many people at stake. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. The leader of any nation is going to face mass crises. Put up or shut up.

As for Bush serving another term, does it state you can only serve two terms or two elected terms? If it is the latter, he could try to win for the second time.

Side note, Bush campaign was partially funded by Saudi oil money (the home of most terrorists from 9/11, bin Laden and many many more in Iraq). Two Bush's, two massive hikes in the price of oil of which the Saudi's and OPEC make their nations fortunes off. No tangible evidence, but food for thought.

The ongoing failure of imagination
Posted: 9/11/2006 6:19:19 AM
The anthrax deaths so soon after sept 11 were proven to come from a US military base specialising in biological and chemical warfare. USAMRIID i think it was called. They were closing in on the perpetrator but the investigation was cancelled by higher powers. Pro life fundamentalists killed doctors and terrorised them into following their ideas...

It is possible to get the required materials and tools to make a nuke. Tom Clancy wrote "The Sum of All Fears" years ago (the movie was meh) where some nutters set off a nuke in a stadium. With the heightened state of awareness in intelligence communities it would be hard to assemble it all, make it and transport nearly impossible. Take long enough to get the wrong people in the right place and the odds go in the wrong direction.

Doesn't matter if you are scared or not and die, living in fear is bad for the soul though.

MSM scare stories
Posted: 9/11/2006 5:27:18 AM
That harmless ozone layer that caused people to get skin cancer and die. What a scare tactic! Acid rain has killed forests, people's livelihood and quality of life. But that doesn't matter as it doesn't effect YOU!

Global warming is here, the melting glaciers, more frequent violent storms like katrina, etc. Lets not forget global dimming as well which is a major factor in many droughts. But, who cares about some Africans hey, it is harmless.

Nuclear winter would have been caused by a nuclear war. Harmless when they don't happen thankfully. The Ice Age wasn't a bad movie, but the previous one was what, ten thousand years ago. Soviet socialism was a problem to liberals? Umm, the left is afraid of the left, good one. Next you are going to say Henry Ford supported the Nazi's because he liked keeping his enemies closer...

In related news, Canada orders hit on pope

the church really tells it's women to stay in the kitchen barefoot? are knee high boots also acceptable, i think i found may faith!

i find great irony in how so many faiths had their roots in people going against the status quo, and how the same group (usually by name) tries to hold onto that status quo. companies too.

Bill Clinton threatens ABC about documentry
Posted: 9/10/2006 10:43:53 AM
So if the perpetrator of a hazy and intentionally difficult to track terrorist attack was captured or killed, would that bring back to life those killed?

i think the more important lesson is how to not let it happen again.

Into the topic, if a documentary has bits made up and doesn't say exactly which parts they are, then it is a drama based upon true events. The severity and relevance to the real life drama requires more delicacy than usual. If any of it is made up it should have the ass sued out of it. What if an essential briefing was missed in it cos Bush caught a big bass while on a fishing trip? Same deal, cut it out. The nature of the content has to be spot on.

Lewinsky was blown out of proportion (no pun intended), in my opinion. It didn't seem to effect the governance of the nation so it was an issue for Bill and his wife.

As an aussie, i don't understand why you yanks are so democrat or republican. we basically have two parties as well, neither of which truly represents us, and we hate them both. We are united in our distrust or those that serve themselves. Payouts of thirty grand if they lose their job, a pay increase the average Aussie take two to three years to get and a boost in super cos it just ain't enough... They don't get as many kickbacks or criminal records as your ones do. How do you pick a rotten banana over a rotten apple???

Pope Bashes Canada
Posted: 9/10/2006 10:25:52 AM
the women often choose to wear the religious head dress. the pope bashes Canada is the topic, not Islam bashes western faiths. or eastern ones, tribal faiths, etc (catholicism hit them hard while taking their dates and festivals)

Islam has had a bashing recently anyway. I haven't seen a balance of bad muslims to good ones on the news.
The terrorists that killed doctors weren't given as much airtime either. that is the "pro life" ones that bombed and shot doctors at work and home in the usa.

bad people are just that, people. they are black, white, asian, norwegian, swiss, bankers, politicians (well maybe a higher percentage there), doctors, teachers, young, old, christian, muslim...

my bashing is to all hierarchy. all power corrupts...

how many stones you throwing there vivid?
is a free sex fantasy as bad as actually having free sex? the thought is what counts, or so my parents told me at christmas time...

what happened to forgiving someone?

the usa got missile technicians from germany (they were racing the soviets), so was hitler also resposnsible for the israeli's who died from hizbollah missiles? or the palestinians that died from missiles fired from made in the usa helicopter gunships?

i don't recall anywhere in history has their been an official protection of priests who raped children. kids who are in the care and highly susceptible to manipulation by "men of god". should the pope be charged with molestation seeing as he is aware of it?

religion is about self betterment, not the bettering of others through domination and following of rules. stone throwing, be it well directed or thrown at anything that moves will not change what happened. better yourself, not your lessers.

free sex is a sin? so you really do believe brothels are required?
the bible hasn't changed for sixteen hundred years, when it edited and compiled. it isn't a book of rules either, it gives guidance, as does the koran, and other religious texts. and just in case you think this is a schoolyard, murder is bad, rape is bad, etc. i am not saying these things are ok. i am sure you would think of killing someone who was going to hurt a loved one of yours. how can one book describe what to do in EVERY situation?

murder and condoms, the two are just so closely related i wonder why no one ever thought of it before... oh, and speaking of legalising murder, how about the crusades where the "christians" slaughtered people of all faiths in cities, killed rulers to take their land, ate the corpses of the dead and lets not forget telling them it is ok to kill a non believer or infidel... it sounds familiar to some.

telling Africans that condoms don't stop sperm or aids is a clown act. the continent that has huge numbers of people malnourished, struggling to subsistence farm, what seems like institutionalised rape and high death rates from birth, and what does the head of the catholic church tell them? have more kids... i guess good living standards are not the christian way for some people in their gold lined homes, silk gowns and other items that Jesus reguarly was found slothing in. More pollution, hunger, pressure on water, food and space resources won't help anyone. it will kill more people.

Human spirituality is not a matter for someone thousands of miles away with no awareness of a person's situation. I am all for churches, synagogues and mosques but for them to be pretty independent and to help people on a more personal level. the greatest church i have ever seen is the universe. the roof of the sistine chapel isn't even a star in the night sky. people should discuss the facts and points of view, not hide them. make up your own mind.

Convicted Felons Voting?
Posted: 5/4/2006 12:44:01 AM
YOU don't get the argument.
You lose a little, then all of a sudden you have lost a lot. THAT is the point. Two wrongs don't make a right. It IS discrimination.

Everyone who obeys the law within reason gets a say. THAT is also part of democracy. Some people will NEVER understand that.

Everyone who obeys the law to any extent (or none) does get a say, that IS democracy.

first the felons, then the gays, then the mexicans, then the blacks, then the poor... soon only rich white folk can vote, which is cheaper than buying a politician with "campaign" donations.

part of a democracy is everyone gets a say, even the people you think are the worst in society. what is the big deal in the usa, when so few eligible voters care enough to actually get off their asses and have a say?

Ben Stein's Diary
Posted: 3/9/2006 11:04:36 PM
The government does decide if gays can marry, and seeing as straight people aren't made to marry a gay person, it isn't a problem for me or anyone else.

Ben Stein sounded like a blowhole in that article. Self serving look how great i am for noticing the men and women in Iraq... Does everyone who accepts an award need to say a tribute to those stuck where they don't want to be? Will saying "thanks guys, your loss of limb and life helped make this movie" really do anything?

I am not saying anything for or against those in the field, i spent time as infantry (only at home), and a general tribute prolly would have been good. But each person... that would REEK of fake over sentamentlism.

Unplanned Pregnancy-Fatherhood opt out????
Posted: 3/9/2006 10:16:36 PM
If a child has parents who fight and argue because of one parents choice, then the emotional trauma of divorce on the child as well, the father loses contact with the child when the mother gets vindictive, hurt for all three... Can anyone sue the government for causing all this pain?

The welfare of the child is not made with money. Some of the happiest children i have ever seen have near nothing if not nothing at all. They do have family, and if this family thing is to be forced it isn't going to be a happy one in most cases. Where is the welfare of two people (and maybe more family) less important than someone who isn't even someone yet. What if the mother dies during childbirth, or suffers complications that lead to infertility and then when they meet the man they want to have a family with, what do they do?

No one method will solve all the problems, but the man should have the right to say no, i don't want this, can't handle it, etc, early on. After the birth it is too late and if you are that indecisive you must be responsible and do your best for the child. A contract at the start of a relationship is just dumb, there does need to be a point later it can't be forced unless both agree as well. Clauses could be added so that if the father wanted to be in the life of the child it could be negotiated later if the mother agreed, etc.

It's tricky but i think it is in the best interest of more people than it will hurt.

BRITS, AMERICANS and CANADIANS.....ARE YOU LISTENING? This is Leadership
Posted: 3/9/2006 9:44:40 PM
Longtoe, your analogy with the black slaves is saying they chose to leave Africa and pick cotton and be strung up because they wanted to.

Someone said about the groups wanting legalised prostitution and pot, well aren't we behind the times... These things are legal in certain states and territories, no one is forced to smoke a joint or visit a prostitute though (though some people really really need too!). Already now women have the choice to wear the headscarf or a mini skirt so small their belt hides it. Sharia law governs choices as well as covering the areas already under protective laws (murder, rape, assault, robbery). I don't want a law that demands i be a muslim and will result in my death if i say no. This whole freedom thing is a choice.

If i ranted and raved about how evil every american is, how immoral they all are and how they are destroying the world, then asked for a green card you would tell me to get lost and not to come to the usa. Same deal. If you want to be a muslim and follow Sharia law when it doesn't break our own, go nuts. If you want to be an anarchist but live within the law, don't care. If you want to be a fundamentalist christian and dislike gays, your home is your own. That is the point, we are saying if you are complaining so much about it, there could be better alternatives out there for you to explore.

What's sharia law?
Posted: 3/9/2006 6:54:16 PM
You seriously missed my point. The ones "over there"...

The Iranian government is not Islam. It is an Islamic based government yes, but bush is a christian in a predominantly christian nation and he told lies to get into Iraq. Yes, Iran commits what i call grevious attacks on personal freedom. It is a reality everywhere though. The emotional suffering of gay people for how they were born should also be mentioned. I have been talking to a friend who was almost in tears because he can't get the same "rights" as a heterosexual person. A man got out of a US jail a couple of years ago after doing 60 years (or around that much time) for stealing a tv. What do you say about all the churches where child molestation was rampant? I don't hear any news of that happening in islamic nations.

No country has a perfect past and none of them are perfect now.
Interpretation and application...

By judging them so harshly based upon your own beleifs, they will always go defensive. Jesus never tried to force anyone, based on any quote or story i have read. People and nations change on their own, and that is all those people in any place "over there" are. People.

What's sharia law?
Posted: 3/9/2006 6:26:43 PM
Bewitched, you are showing a very biased and defensive viewpoint in this forum. The muslims in Canada are different to the ones over there... Do you think the media actually seeks out peaceful people? News is not made with happiness and islam is the current scary, lock the door, bad men want to kill us for no reason. How do you think muslims feel when they see other muslims beaten naked in jail, guantanamo bay, shot while wounded and crying out, the bombs the usa uses that end up killing innocents... Perspective is a powerful thing, don't forget there are two sides and mainstream media is interested in ratings and revenue.

Religion was never meant to be a hierarchy. It is personal, you can't command how a person should live or love.

You can find fault in any law and is too strictly interpreted alot of the time. The amount of wrongful executions in the usa just goes to show it isn't one bad side vs a good side.

After This War
Posted: 3/9/2006 3:43:34 AM
I'd love for there to be no war again, but like communism and totally free markets it won't happen. Hitler armed a nation that was never going to war again. Bad people do bad things on a big scale, armies and war are necessary.

Though the threat needs to be real, not just a way to boost the economy and secure oil...

I would love for you to find ten people of any sex that doesn't have a similar story. Some people just move on when a relationship doesn't work. Your unnoticed actions can end a relationship alot easier than another person will i have found.

So stop writing the same variation of the same story everyone has. Try dating a few women, you won't be bashing men so easily. And yes there is a sign, it is called body language.

Supreme Court overturns ban on Sikh dagger. Religion, rights or safety?
Posted: 3/4/2006 7:46:11 AM
Could every American claim their right to carry arms, also cross into school if it is a six shooter and not really too fatal?

If you allow one religion to do it, you must allow everyone. One rule for one group just creates division which is when the dagger might be brought out for more than symbolic reasons.

Neoconservatism is a flowery version of nazism

If anyone wants sharia law, there are plenty of nations that offer it. You even get priority and other benefits being a muslim in nations like Indonesia. If you tried pushing a christian or jewish agenda in most muslim states, you would get your head in a basket.

If someone wants to live by sharia law in Australia for themselves, so be it. As long as they don't push it on anyone. That is what we as Australians are after, you come here, bring your own cultural flavour but assimilate as an Aussie. If you cheered after sept 11, we don't want you, if you cheer after an Israeli strike against Palestinians, we don't want you. If you cheer after anyone gets killed, we don't want you. If you support the boys as they get flogged by the South Africans in the cricket, your favourite drink is beer, you have more mates than there are people in Aus, then come on over as there is a cold one waiting for you!

This isn't about not accepting a persons beliefs, it is about accepting our way of life. And that isn't exclusive to any one country. It's a big world and we are all different. Everyone just needs to chill.

Posted: 3/2/2006 5:29:34 PM
A girl i know of is sleeping with three guys and she has the horrible herpes. She does it unprotected too, so three guys unwittingly contracted a life long shameful disease. She had a bit of pressure to at least tell the guy she was originally sleeping with, but didn't. Even if one partner, i ask if they are clean. It should be law to declare any std or other disease before you sleep with someone. It just ain't cool.

good credit... potential road to ruin?
Posted: 3/1/2006 8:37:00 AM
It is illegal in Australia to raise a credit card limit without authorisation from the customer. Visa and mastercard can't buy senators, not even on an interest free period.

Credit card companies keep detailed logs of general spending habits. Here in Australia it was recently shown, that i think it was a $2500 credit bill at about 17%, paid off at the minimum rate would take about 30 years to pay off. Home loans are 25 years!

Medal of Honor
Posted: 3/1/2006 8:25:07 AM
Thanks for killing over there so we don't have to get our hands literally covered in blood, thanks for leaving your family so we can go back each night to ours and read the latest poll, thanks for having nightmares for the rest of your life, thanks for doing what we taught you so hard is wrong (killing), thanks for believing it is in your best interest.

Here is some metal and a cloth.

A soldier has one of the hardest jobs in the world. You do the wrong thing, you are dead. You do the right thing, you can still be dead... From what little can be found easily, many many soldiers don't want medals or citations for enormous acts of bravery and courage. They hate what they are doing and don't want to be there, but do it anyway.

I don't mean to take away from the medal with my above statement, i am attacking the suit wearing monkeys who go to war for a strong economy and $$$, then talk about the deeds of ordinary decent people.

I just have to ask....
Posted: 3/1/2006 8:09:05 AM
I doubt Eric was the head of the most wanted terrorist organisation in the world (by a government, otherwise many would consider Bush #1). He wouldn't have needed communications, access to large quantities of cash, to talk to his mum and dad who are family friends of the Bush's... How about that, if Dubya was wanted by the Saudi's during Bush snr's term, do you think he would have been turned over by his dad? When he was going to be executed with no doubt whatsoever?

Saddam was a really bad man and his weapons of mass distraction covered the slowing action in Afghanistan. Even though saddam and osama were not buddies at all, the idea made it to millions they were. How could that happen? Does anyone else notice paralells between 1938/9 and early 21st century?

The odd comment is ok, especially if topped off with a compliment to you Blacktiger. And boy should he be complimenting! The frequency you seem to be not overly happy with and that is completely justified. This seems to be what is making you insecure. Have a talk and if things don't improve, don't chase him to get more attention like most of us would. Be strong and have faith that those magnetic greens have more than just eye candy behind them.

Don't destroy his porn like one poster said, he will be angry and hide future porn. Breaks trust down, he will either let it go on his own or you will be able to move onto bigger and better things (like me)

If it was appealling, you would think bands would get hundreds of girls to come onto their tour buses and have wild sex with them as much as they wanted. Rod Stewart would be able to get a gorgeous personal trainer 200 years his junior if singing was still a turn on. Gene Simmons would finally be able to use that long tongue for more than tieing knots in cherry stalks too...

3 questions about men
Posted: 2/28/2006 5:22:52 AM
1) Actions speak louder than words, sounds like he stopped liking you.

2) Ask your female friends as well. And how do you disappear out of nowhere? You would need to be somewhere to disappear, or you could reappear out of nowhere...

3) You expected the love to continue after it started, so you lost it. Sounds like you weren't truly in love by this post.

People do crappy things to others for a billion reasons at least. Stop wondering why it happened to you and move on. Date some women and find out what it is like from the other side. You have no doubt harshly rejected some people too. Love yourself and not just your image, then good things happen

Clinton bum puffed a joint, dodged a war against a leader the usa once supported, stuck a cigar in a dorky intern, sent missiles against an aspirin factory and kinda stayed out of things except some real estate deal which sounded less shady than alot of politics.

Bush did cocaine, dodged a war against an ex friend of the usa by being in a unit filled with senator and rich guy's sons, used an unchristian religious right to justify actions, intentionally damaged the environment, personally took charge of the hurricane katrina debacle, knowingly lied to get co-operation to start a war, used Bin Laden oil money to run for office, was an alco, bludged through college and got a degree thanks to daddy, looks smug as if it is all a big joke and he is still president.

That is just the view i have from overseas, plus Bush is more recent so easier to remember. I don't like politicians so don't have a bias to begin with.

That was three things about bush i didn't like, again

Halftimedad, i think you have it! The judges (left, right wing and in the centre) narrow it down, then the public votes... It is so simple it is genius!

3 Things You DO NOT Like about the Bush administration
Posted: 2/26/2006 5:48:20 PM
1. Threatened Afghanistan to allow an oil pipeline through it after inviting the Taliban into the white house for tea and cookies, sept 11, war, new government, first act is to put an oil pipeline through the country.

2. Cheated to get into the presidency, is proven to have cheated, takes huge money off corporations, then talks about corrupt governments being bad. Exporting a two party "democracy" which doesn't really offer a good choice to the voting public (a monopoly on power).

3. After a dumbsh*t terrorist group kills innocent lives... he starts a war, takes away freedom of people, kills innocent people, keeps his people in fear of an attack, covers up that the anthrax attacks were from a US military infectious diseases base, stirs up anti western sentiment and basically does what the terrorists wanted to do anyway...

It's three, shuddup!

As for anticons post, i think Bill Hicks knew what was going on. He said, when any president is elected, they are taken into a smoke filled room with the twelve industrialist scumf*cks who really run the country, the lights dim and they roll a film. The image shows a video of what looks like the kennedy assassination from an angle that overlooks a grassy knoll. The tape stops, the lights come up and the new president is asked "any questions?", to which he replies "just what our agenda is".

What the hell good are trees anyway? Go hug one, liberal freaks...
Posted: 2/22/2006 1:05:57 AM
Trees help prevent landslides, erosion, hotter weather, increase rain, provide habitat for a myriad of other animals. They make wooden furniture and built the ships the chinese... i mean christopher columbus found the americas with. They provide warmth when lit, windbreaks for farms, hold tree houses up for kids, drop beautifully coloured leaves... The list goes on.

Oh, and they are great to hug too. Much better than some osama/saddam/bush loving nazi communist. Don't be fooled folks, they are all the same.

If You could choose to be a famous sex symbol of the opposite gender you are, Who would you be ?
Posted: 2/18/2006 4:22:50 PM
Oceanpearl, you are turned off by Brad Pitt because he found another woman who he committed to, then say you think David Beckham is yummy... There was that big scandal a couple of years back with ol Becks shagging two girls he was never going to be anything but a sexual romp with... Talk about double standards!!!!

Blindheart, why would a guy want to be brittney??? She has a kid, got all chubby, has one good song she performed, is married to a guy that treats her like crap, or so says the little gossip press i read, is not that sexy and needs dozens of people to make her successful???

After that, the biggest opposite sex symbol... None. They aren't people i want to be. If it was for a day, fair enough. Sounds too much like "Being John Malkavich" anyway

Men!, why do they react so childishly?
Posted: 2/18/2006 4:18:28 PM
His problem, not men's! And as for childish, he could see this post and think you are trying to get a mob to harrass him! Break out the pitchforks and torches!!!

If anything, he should have asked if you needed help and offered it. If he knew anything about that program anyway. So as stated above, good riddance to overly needy rubbish.

Why Do Men Say I Love You & then dump you later?
Posted: 2/18/2006 4:04:40 PM
I think opinionator is pretty spot on.

Love is an idea, not a set stone instinct. The word love is just organised pixels on your screen, sound energy when you hear the word. The meaning of love exists only in your head!

The guy could be wanting to love you, wanting to treat you right or waiting till he could run because you have such unrealistic expectations. Don't think that guys are such meanies over this. It will have happened to most guys and probably done worse.

So move on, or wait till you love yourself truly, then others will easily.

US getting an international reputation as a fascist government
Posted: 2/18/2006 8:41:53 AM

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

Not a true quote, the full one is here. But it is far more accurate than some other statements.

Why do nice guys finish last?
Posted: 2/17/2006 9:47:00 AM
Because most girls have a fantasy of what they want. Prince charming, white horse, castle, etc etc. And it is bullcrap. They know it deep down, but don't want to admit it. Also, snaring a bad boy is great for the ego. When a girl wants to change a man, what better than a bad one!

Some other women are just awesome though. Doll....
