Thatcher is Dead

I have seen and made various remarks about her death that some might consider very poor taste. Those remarks are largely a reaction to her life and legacy rather than her passing. She has caused so untold misery and hardship to so many people, and made Britain one of the most unequal societies in Europe. I don't blame people for making a few outragious comments.

I grew up in the north of England during the miner's strike and I used to be a nurse. I have personally seen people die because of her policies, so I for one make no apology for anything I have said.

I hope she won't prove to be as divisive in death as she was in life.

Posting crime online - status?
Posted: 4/7/2013 5:32:14 PM

making it public could hinder any investigations and spoil any chance of a conviction. The Police can take a long time in cases due to other issues which they cannot make you aware about. You did the right thing but need to walk away now

I would echo this - well done for not ignoring it! But posting it online before the trial could interfere with the course of justice, also if the assailants see it first they will have prior warning about any arrest. I would get advice from the police before doing anything.

JOKES

As this is a joke thread I will tell you about the time my grandad died.
About a month before, my granny covered his back with an inch thick layer of lard.
He went downhill really quickly after that....

"I like to have fun"
This really does my head in. If you didn't like having fun then not having fun would presumably be your idea of a good time. So in fact not having fun would be fun, which you like having, which means you couldn't like not having fun so why say it?

I should drink less coffee...

oh 'they' have already read your profile and they get it already. Your card is well and truely marked, come the revolution you'll be in the first waves to experience the new program.

The unfairest High Jump????...

There are two types of cruelty: One comes from a desire to cause suffering and the other from indifference to suffering. Both have similar effects and I am not sure which is worse.

Either way a horse will get its leg broken and people will have a nice day out. I am not terribly comfortable with it either...

Dating someone with depression..
Posted: 4/5/2013 3:22:59 PM
1 in 3 people are diagnosed with some form of mental health problem during their life and many people with mental health problems are undiagnosed. Depression can strike anyone at any time without warning. So you can never guarantee that you wouldn't date someone with it, just that you wouldn't date someone who is aware of it.

There is also no guarantee that one day you wont be one of those people.

I think it depends on your intent. If you are looking for a serious long-term relationship I think it's probably better to give an accurate description you are than try and sell yourself. Better to get less messages, but from people you are more likely to have something in common with.

Having said that I hardly get any messages, depite being the obviously hunky sexpot that I am, and not at all a grumpy middle aged computer geek...

Decline of the class system or infalting our standing?
Posted: 4/3/2013 8:05:31 AM
I went to school and grew up in a fairly rough working class area - my parents were middle class academics, but were desperately poor when I was growing up (yum roadkill for tea!). We were among the poorest kids at school and yet I was badly bullied for being posh. I am dyslexic and pretty much gave up school at 15 and have done manual work most of my life - but have since been to college and now lecture part time and work at a desk; so not entirely sure where I fit in to the class system.

I guess the fact that I regard it as a crisis when I run out of olive oil, that there are anchovies in my fridge, and Flageolet beans in my cupboard may give the game away somewhat...

(oh god did I just use the word 'somewhat'?!)

How much does religion affect your choice of date?
Posted: 4/3/2013 7:40:16 AM

Most atheist extremist see human as nothing but animals .Their morality starts and stops at , ''Will I get caught ?

This doesn't really explain why, according to severel sets of national statistics atheists commit less crime and adultery and have fewer teenage pregnancies and divorces. Also why the places that consume the most porn are also hotbeds of religion - Utah has more subscriptions to porn sites than any other place on Earth, closely followed by Saudi Arabia. Given some of the morality taught by the bible this is unsurprising.

Don't get me wrong - I have nothing agianst religious people per se. Many are decent people, stiving to make sense of the world, just like me; but I do take offense at the idea that the only source of morality is religion; or that atheists are incapable of morality, because it is a lie - and not a white lie either!

As for whether or not I would date someone religious? Well I guess deeply held religious beliefs would raise alarm bells as to how much we really had in common. If someone put a religion on their profile I would still talk to them, but if they started trying to tell me people who have abortions are murderers, there were no dinosaurs, same sex marriage is an abomination, or that humans and chimps didn't evolve from a common ancestor, etc, then the conversation wouldn't last long...
