Would you still have children if...?

Op, my condolences on the loss of your mom.

I think before you make any decisions, you should see a genetic specialist and get more information, if possible.

Anyone else here not planning to have kids?

I made the decision many years ago to not have kids, and I have not ever regretted it. Some of us just aren't into children.

HST

What Im curious about is after the 3 time $333.33 pay out to low income families is there still going to be a "gst" (or HST now) check every four months?

Yes. The Provincial Sales Tax Credit is $260 per person, adjusted for family income, and will be paid in quarterly installments in August, November, February and May of each year.

Here's a link explaining it:

US woman convicted of animal cruelty for piercing kittens gets 6 months of house arrest
Posted: 4/14/2010 7:53:46 PM
She should have gotten a harsher sentence. And do, I do not think people should be able to cut off tails, crop ears or pierce children's ears either.

I don't think house arrest is much of a punishment. I'd be quite content at home, I have my computer, tv, books etc. Wouldn't be punishment at all, they do let you go out to shop, for appointments and even church.

This waste of DNA should have been executed after the molestation of the 13 year old. I don't care if the death penalty is not a deterrant, it ensures that that person will never commit that offense again or another equally (or more) heinous offense, and that is the reason I'm pro execution. A life sentence is no guarantee they won't offend again - they could escape and offend, or kill or rape somoene in prison, including the guards or other prison staff.

Earth Hour
Posted: 3/10/2010 6:56:53 PM
I do not participate in earth hour, as I feel that it's a crock. Not because I don't believe in trying to minimize our carbon footprint, but because one hour a year just doesn't do it.

I do what I can year round to help the environment, but one thing I will not do until they are made safe is switch to compact fluourescent light bulbs. I'm stocking up on incandescent before they go out of production so I'll have enough to last a long time. Light bulbs really don't use that much power anyway, it's appliances like fridges, freezers etc that are power hogs and businesses use up much more electricity than the vast majority of households. I'm sick of citizens being blamed for the environment when businesses are way more responsible for the mess it's in.

The truth about beards?
Posted: 3/10/2010 6:52:09 PM

I have no idea who said that a man must use a sharp instrument against his face every day, but that's not natural. And that's not how a man is supposed to look. The beard is what the body wants to produce.

The same can be said for leg and underarm hair - would you date a woman who doesn't shave?

I don't like facial hair on men, and it is a deal breaker for me.

I have never seen this but I think it's a good idea, though I question the claim it's solely for diabetics. I'm diabetic and I just put the used needle back in my purse. I would much rather see these containers in washrooms than have people leave their used needles on the floor, or in parks, on lawns, sidewalks etc.

Cotter, your patients can get disposal containers from their pharmacy - that's where I get mine, and my pharmacy doesn't charge for them. They will also take the filled containers for disposal at no charge.

Still waiting for that maternal instinct **not feeling it**
Posted: 3/7/2010 1:35:32 PM
I'm 47 and still do not want kids. People don't comment on it, but if I ever got asked the question "Don't you like kids?" I'd just reply "As a matter of fact, I don't".

What I find equally annoying is those who can't have kids that get pissed off at those who can have them but don't want them. People who don't want kids don't choose to be fertile any more than people who can't have them choose to be barren.

Should I Change My Number?
Posted: 3/7/2010 1:07:54 PM
I would suggest talking to a supervisor - that usually gets something accomplished. Don't be rude or angry with them, talk to them calmly and politely. I have had this happen and the customer service reps were very rude - one even told me to stick a thermometer up my arse when I said I was sick and they were calling me at 7am for someone who isn't even here. I called back, got her supervisor and reported it. The supervisor said it would be taken care of and I never got another call from them.

If that doesn't work, ask the supervisor how you can prove to them you are not the person they are looking for.

Rules about contact are different in each state/province. Here in Ontario, they can only contact you a max. of 3 times a week.

WHY...Would you date someone who believed in UFOs?
Posted: 3/5/2010 5:39:31 AM

paul the apostle said
"its no marvel for Satan to transform himself into an angel of light"

and in the end times , biblical prophets said there would
demonic manifestations - that would decieve many

funny how the... freaky...hippie...new agers run to UFO's
as some kinda of savior of mankind. . .

in the end.. UFO people are just whacky , who needs that?
life is hard enough as it is

No more whacky than believing there's an invisible man in the sky who created us and made up all kinds of rules to live by, who wants us to worship him and will send us to a torturous place for all eternity if we don't, who sent his half man-half god son to earth to be a sacrifice for our "sins" who commanded us to eat of his flesh and drink of his blood.......

The fact that a man is nice, attractive and wants to shower you with affection, just doesn't come into play often, if at all.

Would you like some cheese with that whine? How is this any worse than men who won't settle for anything but a woman with a tiny waist, big bazooms and a beautiful face?

I don't know about you, but I don't wear cloths.

People worry way too much about what others are wearing. I couldn't care less, as long as the attire covers the appropriate body parts. I'd rather see someone wearing pj bottoms in public than a woman with her tits practically hanging out of her top or a man with his pants hanging below his butt crack.

Why the rudeness, cowboy? I was not rude in my post.

Here is the post that I had to add to to get it to post:

The employer needs to be penalized heavily, but the men also bear some responsibility. Why were they working up there with not enough harnesses? No way could you ever get me to do something like that without proper safety equipment.

I just recounted - 40 words. Perrhaps it's a system glitch that isn't letting me post it, but whatever it is, I had to add to it, and when I put in another paragraph asking why it wouldn't post, it was accepted.

An apology would be nice.

Should Helmets Be Mandatory
Posted: 12/26/2009 12:15:11 AM
OP, you aren't clear as to whether you are asking if the govt should make helmets mandatory or if the ski facility should. I'm against the govt. doing so and I am also against mandatory seat belt and bike helmet laws. Govt. is way overstepping it's bounds.

If a ski (or other sport) facility wants to make hemets mandatory for it's patrons, that is it's right. People can choose to go there or somewhere else if they don't like that particular place's rules.

OP, does your wife know you are looking to step out on her?

This thread reminds me of a story my Dad told me - we were driving out west (Canada) and one night in BC we stopped at a motel - he went in to get a room and the clerk asked him how many hours he wanted it for! He said he took the clerk to the window and pointed at the car and said "See my WIFE and KIDS out there?? What do you think??" Mom was furious when he told her about it, she wanted to go to the office and give the clerk a piece of her mind LOL.

Duggers welcome 19th child--3 months early
Posted: 12/13/2009 1:25:20 AM

Very lucky their child was born before Universal Healthcare. There are already hospitals with a 500g rule. Kid doesn't way 500g. No intervention. I can only see this increasing as more and more people tax the system.

She weighs 1 lb 6 oz which is about 623 grams. According to my math, that is over 500 grams.

I think the Duggars are nuts and I don't think it's fair to the children to have so many. From what I understand, the older ones raise the younger ones. Not a fair burden to put on children, IMO. Also, if each of those children go on to have 19 or more, then it's adding to the problem of there being too many people on the planet. (and before anyone gets their panties in a wad, no I am not a liberal but I care about the world we live in)

However, they have the right to have as many as they want. As others have said, at least they are supporting them themselves.

This is insane. 14 years old is plenty old enough to be able to decide if he wants to visit his father or not. The judge overstepped his bounds in ordering him to go to his father's, IMO. You cannot force a relationship and trying to do so could very well cause further harm to it (the relationship).

teenage condom buying
Posted: 8/8/2009 7:10:45 PM
If the store's policy is to sell condoms to teens, then the clerk should not have refused. If he can't do his job without his personal opinions and viewpoints interfering with it, he should not be in that job. Would it be okay for a Muslim or Jewish store clerk to refuse to sell pork to customers?

OP, I'd have still gone to the store management, even though you didn't want him to get in trouble. Chances are, he'll refuse to sell condoms to some other teen and they will go to the owner. I doubt he'd be fired unless he continued to refuse to sell condoms to teens, but a warning might convince him to do his job.

APA Says If You're Gay You're Gay To Stay
Posted: 8/6/2009 6:53:04 PM

I know this is a big issue in the US but in Canada homosexuals are already allowed to have civil unions and are afforded the same rights as married couples as far as I know

Homosexuals don't have "civil unions" here in Canada, they have marriage, the same as heterosexuals.

The gays can make up their own word just as they appropriated the word gay...it used to mean happy.

It *still* means "happy". Many words in the English language have more than one meaning.

It would be nice if this statement from the APA put to rest the issue of reparative therapy, but of course it won't. The anti-gay faction lives in denial, of course they won't believe it.

Honor Killings ..Again..
Posted: 7/31/2009 12:32:09 AM
We so need to bring back capital punishment here in Canada. This crime disgusts me. Not that other crimes don't, but to kill someone because they do something you disagree with is just despicable. I live near Kingston (and have been to the site where this happened many times) and we've had a lot of coverage on this in our local paper. Apparently, the son has been beaten up in the detention centre and all three accused are in protective custody. There's been accusations that the oldest daughter was killed because she was dating someone the parents disapproved of. The woman, the man's first wife, had been threatened by him in the past and the other two girls were killed because they were raised by her. It just makes my blood boil. Since we don't have the death penalty, I hope we deport these scum as soon as possible if and when there is a guilty verdict. I really feel for the surviving children.

Ladies would you date a Vegan, Vegetarian?
Posted: 7/31/2009 12:21:45 AM
So what do you guys think? Is the "keep vegan in the home and I will never judge what you eat outside the house" a reasonable compromise??

No. Why should the meat eater have to give up his/her foods just because you don't eat them??? How about you each eat what you want without ridiculing or judging or trying to change the other?

Your attitude is one reason why I'm not really interested in vegans/vegetarians. You want it YOUR way, when it is YOU who is the "abnormal" one. Humans are, by nature, omnivorous, which means we eat both meat and plant life. If you want to veer from that, by all means do so, but don't expect people to cowtow to your preferences to the point of not eating meat in their own home.

To the person who mentioned weight, there are lots of fat vegetarians. There are also lots of compassionate meat eaters.

child before marriage is wrong but not sex before marriage...why?
Posted: 7/25/2009 10:15:17 PM

With trump card in women's hand, who can control this messy situation? Men with their brain programmed to think of sex 24x7 cannot be expected to contribute much to the improvement. If today's women who have much more control over their life(and sex) and are the receiving end of all the problems associated, cannot do anything then how can we expect better relationships and a better society?

I am so fricking sick and tired of hearing men blame women for their sleezing around. Guys are just as capable of keeping their pants zipped up as women are. To blame women for your sexual escapades is a cop-out and an abdication of responsibility. Ironically, many of the same men scream about responsibility when the topic is abortion.

Sex leads to child... simple.

No, sex does not always lead to a child. If it did, you'd have a point, OP. However, very, very few sexual encounters result in pregnancy. There are many ways to prevent pregnancy, granted not all methods of contraception can be used by all women, but most women can use at least one.

Abortion Doctor Finially Killed...
Posted: 7/15/2009 8:58:30 PM

You don't have to bring an undeveloped child into your sex life.

I don't bring any child into my sex life, developed or not.

If you'd rather run the risks of using a lesser protective method (ie. Condoms, 87-98% success rate)

Not everyone can use hormonal birth control - I cannot. I've tried the IUD and it was pure hell. And it's darn near next to impossible to get sterilized when you do not have any children, even though you know you do not want them. I was refused because "you might change your mind".

I, for one, believe that the child's life should be protected from being adversely affected by saline or toxic drugs.

Saline abortions are a very small percentage of abortions and I believe are used well before the fetus can feel any pain. Drugs aka medical abortion are used early in the first trimester, once again well before pain is able to be felt by the fetus.

Supposing that I am wrong on this one, and fetuses are equivalent to nothing more than a cancer, I still prefer to err on the side of not taking a human life, developed or otherwise.

Very easy to say when you will never, ever know the terror of an unwelcome pregnancy, isn't it?

By law, the plates have to be clear of mud, snow etc so as to be easily readable. I don't know how dirty it was, if it was dirty enough to make it hard to read, I can see it. Or perhaps he wanted to make sure you cleaned it before it got so dirty it couldn't be read. At least he only gave you a warning, and didn't ticket you.
