Notice: Forums will be shutdown by June 2019

To focus on better serving our members, we've decided to shut down the POF forums.

While regular posting is now disabled, you can continue to view all threads until the end of June 2019. Event Hosts can still create and promote events while we work on a new and improved event creation service for you.

Thank you!

Part of the problem is that you are also posting on a very large free site, open to the ravages of internet stupidity. For your purposes, you'd probably be better served seeking out websites/forums that cater specifically to your needs. Those will have smaller and more focused audiences.

Have you ever had to put down your dog or cat?
Posted: 6/26/2012 8:56:22 PM
Not a dog or a cat, but I've had several birds over the years. The saddest was one who became very ill and was basically in his death throes by the time I got him to the vet. There was nothing they could do so I just sat there and held him until he passed. Feeling his little heart slow down and stop in my hands was crushing.

Dishonest people…
Posted: 6/26/2012 8:50:59 PM
Sometimes people think that a lie is easier than the truth, or perhaps they've had the truth backfire on them so they figure a lie is "safer". Meh. The state of the world is such that often times we will believe the lie to be the easier route. Or the coward's way.

I'm in the "once bitten, twice shy" mindset for trusting people right now.

That said, iphone/android/etc apps that let you check messages from your phone really skew with things, so you can't reliably judge by that (unless you know they don't have a smartphone).

The best Winnipeg neighbourhoods in which to live? Why?
Posted: 4/29/2012 2:37:08 PM
I've been in Fort Richmond for the last few years and really like it there. Quiet but friendly neighbours, not too much traffic but close to groceries, and plenty of shopping just a short drive away in the Kenaston area or St. Vital. It'll be interesting to see if anything changes once the stadium is running.

I'm going to try my hand at gardening this year. I'm not sure if the potatoes I put in are doing ok, but my onions are growing so far.

New format of my inbox on POF
Posted: 4/29/2010 10:13:54 PM
Yeah, it's been this way for a while now... The messages screens are cluttered, and it's just harder to navigate. You'd think with all the complaints that they would have streamlined it a bit by now.

Valentines 2010
Posted: 2/25/2010 10:13:19 AM
Long story short: my valentine's day involved a blind date who wound up leaving with someone she met during the date. Her explanation to the friend who set us up: "he was kinda ugly".

Valentines 2010
Posted: 2/7/2010 1:01:03 PM
I remember one time I saw a booth set up at the university advertising for one of the hotel romance suites around the Valentine's season. The salesman was trying to hand out pamphlets and called out to one passerby with a coupon. The guy's response: "Why bother? I'd still be jerking off alone!"

I just selected the lowest option. Maybe after a few weeks I'll go up a bracket and see if anything changes. I'll keep repeating that every few weeks until my matches improve. If that doesn't work, I guess that just means I'm ugly.

Could you ever trust someone you met on a dating site?
Posted: 1/23/2010 1:44:36 AM
I've already had a woman stalk me and figure out my income. On the one hand, I was kind of impressed she actually managed to dig that deep and figure it out. On the other hand... nuh uh. Haven't been too keen on trust since then.

Pictureless etiquette
Posted: 1/12/2010 12:48:40 AM
I've met two people who didn't have pictures up. The first was clearly a couple steps larger than "average" body type. The second might have been a man. I mostly just ignore pictureless profiles now.

edit: oh wait that's not true, sometimes I yell at people for being stupid/ignorant

I don't think we've really had any crazy storms like those from the mid 80's. I remember actually getting snowed in the house once, and we had to call the neighbours to dig us out.

Pandemic swine flu-someting to ponder or NOT
Posted: 11/3/2009 9:12:15 AM
I think the real winners against swing flu are the people who make those little hand sanitizer things. You see them everywhere now; on the walls, by the stairs and elevators, on every cabinet corner in every office building.

My grandma was a 2 or 3-pack-a-day smoker for nearly 50 years and quit cold turkey when she realized it was making her grandkids sick. It's been over 10 years since her last cigarette.

Theatre Anyone?
Posted: 9/21/2009 12:06:07 AM
I've had season tickets to MTC for 11 years now, and Warehouse and WSO for the past 3.

Last year, Scorched was by far my favourite (and I would say one of the best I've seen). I hated Medea though, but I think it was more the subject matter than the actors/actresses that I didn't like.

Maybe...
- they don't have many pictures to work with
- they are technologically impaired
- the pof resizing pixelated their picture
- they figure the blurriness makes them look better/thinner

Favourites and Last 5 Posts

Seeing someone with a large number of favourites can be discouraging. On the other hand, the only different I see this making is that the popular/pretty people will get even more messages and the rest will see no change.

Dating & The Recession - Any Casualities Out There?

Sometimes turning your computer onto its side can extend the life of your fan for a bit (so the rotation axis is vertical). It's not a guaranteed fix by any means though. More like a hack solution that handy in the short run... sometimes.

Ukraine - Kyiv: solid show as always, awesome perogies (I'm not even going to try and spell it the proper way... there's a few v's and y's in there)

Alpine: Sadly, their yodeler is out sick, but it's still a fun pavilion. Overall the food and dancing is just ok, but there's such a happy energy through the whole show and lots of audience participation.
