why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs?
Posted: 8/18/2009 2:17:44 PM
Dude, if you leave a dog in the car in Chicago or New York City in July for 5 hours, while you walk through a museum, there will be many many police officers waiting for you when you return.
=============================
thats why there are kennels- a reputable one makes all the difference
========================================================
Dogs are useless, serve no purpose, thats it. My life has been dog free since day one, and I can't think of any reason why I should own one. I don't need an animal for company. I have real human friends for that. My kids never relied on a dog to play with, they played with other kids.

Simply put, people get dogs for 2 reasons....everyone else has one, so you better get one too, or, social issues with an inability to relate to other humans, so you get a dog for companionship, because the animal wont judge you and tell you that you really need to interact with people more.
===================================
this^^^ is very sad!
===============================
Spare me, heard it all from other psychotic dog fanatics! >>> well just dont date people with pets- end of story

It still amazes me that so many of you are jumping all over Michael Vick for abusing animals and say nothing about the other Athletes in professional sports that have abused their spouses/girlfriends, committed violent crimes against people or have even murdered people.
========================================================
this is about animal abuse & Michael Vick; not people abuse. Tho I wonder how these folks treat their families if they abuse animals.. think about it.
I believe most of the dogs were sucessfully rehabed & found homes. Some will stay at the sanctuary & a few were put down.

wonder if his "PR" for the Humane Society was part of the parole agreement; certainly he would not do it b/c he is sorry it happened. He is just sorry he got caught. It will be interesting to see the 1st Eagles game & how the fans will react.. just glad he is not playing for the Steelers or the Bills.. so I can watch those games in peace..

I really dont give a flying **** if he is sucessful or not; this is going to follow him for some time; needs to realize that aint going to always get his own way & that some things are not acceptable in society; no matter what your race or ethnicity. He could scrub toilets for all I care but personally I think he should have stayed in jail

Why do I always put my foot in my mouth about my weight?
Posted: 8/1/2009 2:52:07 AM
Only you know why your self esteem is low.....................

Ice: it does not help that the media portrays women as big boobs & curves but also skinny. Men are used to looking at Playboy & porn, lots of plastic surgery/airbrushing etc & the theme is a hot 'Young" chick. For women; many of the startlets of today as well as fashion models are quite thin, sometimes to the point of being anorexic. We are told this is "normal". But they all have cooks & trainers & nannies & housekeepers to handle everyday things so can focus on exercise & diet; but that is not real life.

I probably will always think I am not thin enough; tho the last 2 guys I dated had no complaints. But this goes back to my childhood- never thin enough for mom who always harped about my weight. Meanwhile my sister looked great in a bikini into her 40's. It took a LOOONNNG time for me to be comfortable with my body. But I am now; realizing I cant change some of it (will always be busty unless I have reduction & aint going there!... & am very short waisted so that makes the middle look bigger- yuk)... Some of it I can- go to the Y to swim & work out at least 3 times a week. I feel good, &it does do something for you mentally- endorphins maybe?

Yes we are a country of obesity & that is bad but as you get older if you stay active (another thread!) & keep a positive attitude & try your best at whatever you do then that is all good.

If the OP is unhappy I agree maybe some counseling. But also be around positive people & have a happy attitude, otherwise it just brings you down. Try a gentle yoga class- mine is based on stretching- I get a great "high" from that at the end & feel wonderful. Also work with a trainer at the Y or the gym, dont feel you have to exercise like the masses, they have probably been doing their routine forever; it can be overwhelming. OP should find what works for HER.
walk the dog (if you dont have a dog- help me walk mine- I have 3!) ; go to the gym, window shop the mall from one end to the other. Lots of things work... and dont give up!

OP: try not to go on a strict diet- they usually fail-- and you will always be thinking of that piece of chocolate cake! Treat yourself weekly to lo fat ice cream or frozen yogurt; or whatever you crave or like; its surprising how you look forward to it; then arent thinking about eating chips.. & fries.. & candy all the time. Change your mindset.. its worked for me many times. I still struggle with my weight; to keep it under control, & eat healthy. But I am not going to go out to a nice restaurant & just have a salad; what is the fun in that? I dont go out that often- that alone is a treat.

good luck OP; I will be cheering for you!

got my nails done yest- not too long- I garden in the summer & too long means they will probably break. Have not had them in yrs- tips with acrylic overlay/French Manicure. They look great!
My nails are thin & break so that it looks like I am a nail biter. Got sick of looking at them. Have tried multiple products to help them grow & be stronger- only works for a while. So I decided to indulge- and want to make a good impression for my date tonite!

Is having a check list the key?
Posted: 7/30/2009 3:26:12 AM
I think having a list is the problem- if you dont meet all the "requirements" then the fish gets thrown back. Compatability/chemistry is a large factor but if his fav color is blue & yours is red, come to an agreement for gods sake & dont make a mountain out of a molehill. We all have different interests, hopefully we share some; but you dont want a clone of yourself.

you should have standards; & everyone has dealbreakers such as drug use or smoking or whatever. You do have preferences such as likes brown hair or shaved head; beards or not; but if she is a size 6 & not a size 4 well that seems rather silly doesnt it? Esp if everything else is wonderful

just my opinion tho

Dating an individual with no children, how much of an issue is it?
Posted: 7/29/2009 4:24:46 AM
the only venom I see is multiple forums on how "I wont date others w/o children"; Single guys with or without kids suck" etc etc etc. Apparently its a BIG issue.

to be turned down by someone with children for the reason you dont have any (and vice versa) is rejection; simple. And it obviously bothers people, including myself, that this is the reason they want nothing to do with you.

Why are women not interested in sailing?
Posted: 7/29/2009 3:12:00 AM
why are men not interested in...insert hobby.. you will find both men & women have the same complaint. Sailing.. like another poster commented.. maybe they get seasick, are afraid water, cant commit to an expensive hobby- its WORK to own a boat & get anything out of it. Or are just not interested.

there must be men/women who sail, if you belong to a club, or crew etc hopefully you will find someone of the opposite sex to sail with.

Have you ever asked your grandparents how they met?
Posted: 7/28/2009 4:01:04 PM
dont know how my grandparents met- will assume on my mother's side that he sent for her from the "old country". They had 5 kids & she left them & moved to Cleveland with the guy boarding with them- he was no prize- an alcoholic. She had 5 kids with him too. I never knew them.

my dads parents- not sure how they met either. But I have to agree with Cookie....
My Grandpop was the happiest, nicest man...and my Grandmother was bitter and just downright nasty.]

She was against divorce.. he died at 65; she lived to 93 (it got better once she got forgetful)

3.2 million dollars, I could retire now ...]

sounds good.. but I dont have a lot of toys, live in an older home, bought a used car. Had a fairly expensive hobby showing dogs for 17 yrs. Loved it, realized a while ago would not be able to continue it when I retire so... since I exceeded all my goals with my four dogs... I gave it up. Miss it sometimes, the people/my friends, the excitement of a great win. But I have other things I am doing now that I enjoy & have wonderful memories.

If I could have "wishes" , would like enough to pay off the mortgage & the bills, have enough for upkeep of the house/car & not have to worry; and would like to help my family & a few favorite charities.. That would be enough for me.

Medical Terms you won't hear used in Canada
Posted: 7/27/2009 4:45:19 PM
My 25 year old niece having exhausted her mental health cap and filing for bankruptcy committed suicide.This is always the best outcome for the corporate profit situation.]

Jack: I am so sorry about this. Mental health is dealt with differently than medical & I am not familiar with this type of care. However there are many that are in state hospitals, nursing homes & at home that are on Medicaid. Perhaps the difference is that they qualified by being disabled. I dont know- that is not my area of expertise.

contracts change yearly - which is why you need to read any literature sent to you by the insurance company. Many things that are covered like physical therapy have a limited number of visits. If denied it is not denied based on medical necessity; it may BE medically necessary but it is denied because the benefit has been exhausted.

But what about the working poor? Those who have too high an income that they don't qualify, but do not have employment that gives sufficient medical coverage?]

there are policies for them also- Healthy NY for one. CHIPS for the kids thru the state. Blues & Preferred Care (MVP) also have plans for for those that are the working poor. Not sure what plans have life time caps but have never heard that a child who qualified (catastrophic care) that was not covered. My brother's youngest qualified & was covered & they had private insurance also

Dog Bite
Posted: 7/26/2009 11:43:15 AM
Sometimes at a certain age, purebreds get tempermental. there has been a lot written about this. ]

^^^tell the source of this statement please. I just lost a 14 yo dog- a purebred- a champion- loved everyone. He was fairly arthritic the last couple yrs but NEVER attempted to bite. Neither did his dad (15) or mom (13). He was not used to children, but tolerated them petting him tho the little ones moved to quickly for him- NEVER attempted to bite them either. I found the same true with my 10 yo Doberman & 13 yo Westie

You can inbreed a bit; what I think you are referring to is linebreeding, breeding along a certain line for characteristics you want; at some point- you do have to outcross or will run into genetic problems

The only thing I had to worry about was getting to the hospital after work to visit - I'd probably still be bankrupt trying to pay for it all if I lived in the states (comment on premature baby)

if insurance did not cover it all , the child can be covered by Medicaid (in the US) as catastrophic care. The social worker assigned to you in the hospital should be working on it at time of birth. Granted there is about a 3 mo period before it kicks in , but you shouldnt be getting a bill once its pending- they can & do backbill

Loved to putter about in the yard; even did zoomies from time to time. He was in fairly good shape til mid June, I lost him June 26, 1 mo shy of his 14th birthday.

Cheshire: you need to read message 14- the guy came in thru the WINDOW; the owner was not there, & he came from behind the dog to touch it.

OP I would be sure to write this all down & be able to present it ; with statements from your family if that is what they told you. Try to get the statements signed.
This is very different than "the dog came up to me in .. the park.. the yard..etc.. & bit me for the hell of it"

and I cant believe anyone would have fantasies about it.. but from what I read on the forums, it seems to be common.
